In VP maximising the tang engagement in a locker/spool there's not room between the 2 axle ends for the spider gear cross pin.
I had the same "overlength" issue as you with some VP vvds when I changed to an open centre in the front my U4 truck, though they were fine with the spool previously installed.
So you're telling me the rear axles shafts on the SMT10 are different lengths than the other AR60 axles?

NO

He is telling you the VP shafts are longer for full engagement in LOCKERS for maximum strength. When you use them with open diffs you have to take some length off the tangs.

I understand what he is saying. But the fact is the VP axles are longer than the Axial axles. The axles in the Bomber and SMT10 are the exact same length. So is the extra length of the VP axles swallowed by the Axial locker?

In VP's defense, their website does not list them for the SMT10.

I'd bet so, as stated before its the cross pin in the open diff that makes up the difference.

Interesting. I didn't realize that.

The rear axle shafts on my Digger have very little side to side play. The front universals are a different story though. I can pull both front wheels out and push them in. It seems they each move about 1/8". I do want to figure out how to fix that. That's a lot of shims if that's the only way to fix it.

BTW your avatar is disturbing!

I think I'm going to put rear steering on my Grave Digger now that I have the MT-4 with the thumb stick. I have to gather a list of parts which shouldn't be too long.

What are your thoughts on 4WS for bashing? I'm never going to race this thing.

I designed and printed my own fake beadlock rings. I'm not sure if I like the look yet. If I use them the bead on the wheel will have to be painted black to match the ring. And obviously the bolt heads will get painted silver.

Better with or without?

Willing to share the file for those rings?

I have the beadlock rings on Shapeways. I might also put them on Etsy.

Not sure if I can share Shapeways links here without a star. Search for "JConcepts" and you'll find it.

It's not up on Etsy yet.
