Default Jato's Monster Bolt

I did a trade with kmnss and I got his Monster Bolt project seen here: Monster Bolt Build

I'm not exactly sure what my plan is for this one. He did a good job of building it and it looks stout so to start I'm going to get a servo, install the Castle SCT system he included, and run it!

I think I want to buy a black SMT10 chassis for the cool and scale factor since I won't be racing it.

It might also get 4 wheel steering. The conversion to 4WS is expensive. What is the least expensive way to do this?

Here's some pictures once it got into my possession. I'm not sure if the Chevy C10 body is going to stay, but I don't use it it on anything else.

Looks good. I like the Chevy body.

Thanks. That Chevy body was on my Sawback, but it never looked right.

I did look on eBay. A front AR60 axle is about $70. I haven't looked for just the steering takeoff parts though.

Nice!

can't you just buy the c-hubs and steering knuckles for the rear axle? No nee dfo a full axle. In all honesty these trucks seem to be a bit sensitive on 4ws and people tend to go back to 2ws. Just my view though.

ax10 conversions looks so nice. I'm about to do the same with my daughters deadbolt. She has requested a pink body with silvery hearts and glitter for birthday present If possible, it should have a disney frozen theme also

Yes, I can buy just the steering parts, but sometimes piecing everything together gets expensive.

calcagno45 is correct. Proline Destroyers on Proline Brawlers. The planetary hubs were drilled out by kmnss for access to the wheel nut without having to remove the cover.

I would say keep your eyes peeled and you may come across take off front and rear axles for $90-100. I picked up used Bomber kit axles with under-drive rear gears and Incision lockers for $100.

I've seen that, but I don't need entire axles. These are DLux housings with beefed up parts. I just need the steering components for the rear axle.

This truck came with MIP driveshafts. I've never used MIP driveshafts on anything, but is this rusting typical? This is crazy for unused shafts.

Has it been stored in high moisture environments? I'll be honest, the ones on my SCX10 look far worse, but they also have seen parking lot salt in the winter.

Not really worried. I just expected a better finish from a company like MIP.

He said these were in his shed or garage so I'm sure they were subjected to humidity.

Salt is a killer!

I'm going to put some Ballistol on them (gun lube) and see if that helps them.

If they have been outside they will look like that, they don't really have any protective finish it seems.

Interesting. I was thinking they'd have something like a Melonite finish on them.

Oh well. Like you said, no big deal.

Looking at both exterior of MIPs and your clutch spring , just a bit of surface rust, none seen on the splines. I dipped mine in NeoLube and no surface rusting. My RR hardened pinion shows the same, no worrys !

I didn't even notice it on the spring.

Never heard of NeoLube, but I'll check it out.

Default Jato's Monster Bolt

Was originally made and sold by Graflex/Singer as a dry lube for shutters . Graphite in alcohol is basically all it is.

Neolube - Adds a "Steel-Like" Finish on your valve gear and side rods! The perfect solution for lubricating locomotive running gears and operating couplers!

In alcohol? Interesting. So the alcohol evaporates and leaves the graphite behind? Is that how it works?
