| Hell Kitty: Lightly-modded Clod
So I had a used Clodbuster I picked up for spare parts for my super ages ago, but I kind of lost interest in the crawling thing (no good locations nearby, no clubs) and the Clod was just sitting gathering dust. Body mounts were broken, and I'd repurposed the Chevy body into a stoplight racer, but I got this idea. I did some minimum mods on the Clod: 4 link, chassis stiffeners from CPE, oil-filled shocks (E-Maxx, IIRC), axle-mounted steering and aluminum knuckles. Then I got to work: Some sort of top plate on the chassis. Why? To mount a steering wheel, shifter, and very rudimentary dashboard on. What kind of body you going to put on that? A Bug, of course: Of course, it'll need some paint: Is that a spot for a blower in the hood? Don't you know Beetles had rear engines? Nope, had to move the engine up front to make room for the stereo. Universal light buckets: Paint: Mount: So what about that blower? VW's don't have them. Yeah they do: |

Monster trucks have roll cages. I fiddled with building one, then realized I could suggest it with just a few bars shoe-gooed in across some of the windows: There are a lot of lights on this truck. Including the rear license plate light (but not the rear taillights), they all work. The turn signals work, and I used red bulbs for the headlights, wired into the brake light circuit so that (as an homage to Grave Digger) her eyes go from dull to bright red when you hit the gas. |

Did you just call it "her"? Well, yeah, here's where it gets odd. A truck needs a driver, so I got one, old Tamiya driver from...I don't remember, a discontinued model anyway. And then I added a new head: Is that... Hello Kitty? Kind of. But she's pissed: She's so pissed, you might call her: The Hell Kitty. Functionally, not much different than a stock Clod. The four-link gives slightly more articulation, but not a lot, and the 4WS is independently controlled, but the motors are stock silver cans, the gearbox has got no upgrades save ball bearings, and the tires are stock with no foams. That's the way I like it. The original Clodbuster was a very functionally accurate reproduction of the state of monster truck technology for its day. If I wanted a big-tired stadium racer, I'd go get one. I'm happy with this, thanks for looking! |
