I'll be following along since I'm also building an SMT10. Where did you find a Max D?

Thanks,
MP

Got it off eBay when they had a coupon. It was a seller from Taiwan, but it looks like they raised the price now.

NICE!
if i didn't have 379,754,848 other hobbies i would get one of these and make it a scale bigfoot retro (fiberglass body of the 80's version on a modern tube chassis).

these are way cool i cant wait to see what you do with them.

Taking a break from work... and will be going to bed soon. Got a chance to take a picture of all the parts waiting to be installed. Only a few more things left on the way.

Yeah, they're HobbyWing 10BL60's I had them lying around, because I bought a bunch intending to put them in Tamiya's to make them brushless. LOL. Now I'm at a stick a 1060 in them and be done with it. So I have some of these for other projects that don't require sensored now. These 2 were originally going to be stuck in my mod clod to make it brushless, but I've now decided to just stick with the HW 860 and some Traxxas Titans in it.

Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL60 Brushless unsensored ESC
HobbyStar 4-Pole 3500kv Brushless Waterproof Motor
DS3218MG 20kg Servo

I've been waiting for your parts too lol and seeing all that makes me giddy with excitement! i want IN!!!! stupid lack of fun money!!!! seriously considering uber driving once i get rid of my FR-S.

cant believe you're going brushless on these mofos. but then... is there really any other way? lol very cool!
would you consider adding sound? ess one belching out big block merlin 1,000+hp noise would be the icing on the cake.

Awesome upgrades

Curious about the AR60 OCP Full Width Axle Adapter Set you bought for the Grave Digger? Will this make the rear wider than the front?

I have no clue! I actually bought it for my Yeti, but my Yeti went with the SSD HD60 centered axle instead. So was saving it for my Yeti score, but if it's the same width as the SMT10, then I'll use it on the SMT10 so that I don't have to buy the rear lockouts.

Cool I'm also wondering how those servos will hold out. I could buy 10 for the price of a Hitec

Edit: Ok, I just bought 2. If\when the stock Tactic blows up, I'll have some spares

Just checked. It's wider, so I won't use it. I want everything even.

EDIT: You could technically use them if you use JConcepts Tribute wheels with the 3 different offsets are available with the adjustable offsets.

Grave Digger Upgrade Part 1: Transmission Gears, Transmission housing, Spur Gear, and Motor

Aluminum Transmission Case
SSD RC Steel Transmission Gears for SCX10/Wraith/SMT10
Xtra Speed HD Steel Spur Gear 56T/15T
Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL60 Brushless unsensored ESC
HobbyStar 4-Pole 3500kv Brushless Waterproof Motor

Finally got to kick off the upgrade build. The Grave Digger will be getting the upgrade treatment first, as it's my son's.

First thing that needs to be taken care of are the transmission gears and housing.

SSD HD Gears going in...

New SSD HD Gears in aluminum transmission housing

All put together

Xtra Speed 56T Steel Spur gear going in

Xtra Speed on left, Axial on right

Hobbystar 4-pole 3500kv waterproof brushless going in.

All meshed up (The stock 11T Pinion is pictured. I actually ended up swapping out to the 15T pinion that came with the Xtra Speed 56T spur gear)

Powerplant/powertrain all mounted up

Using a Hobbywing Quicrun 10BL60 Brushless Esc

Grave Digger Upgrade Part 2: Axles & Drive Shaft

Time to upgrade and strengthen those axles for monster truck status.

GDS Racing 107-145mm Steel Drive Shafts
Axial Heavy Duty Locker (AX30500)
Xtra Speed Stainless Steel Axle Tubes
Boom Racing Axial Wraith HD Steel Rear Axle Shafts For AR60 Axle
Boom Racing Axial Yeti Heavy Duty Bevel Helical Gear Set - 38T/13T

Boom Racing HD Diff Gear. Kept it at stock ratio. For now, only going in the rear axle.

Started with the rear axle first. Old diff setup coming out (on right), new one going in (on left).

Put the Axial locker into the diff housing. This is only for the rear axle

Another look at old(left) vs new(right)

All greased up and put back into the axle housing.

Time for the axle tubes

With the axle tubes... you'd need modifications to your stock rear axle shaft in order to get them to fit through the tubes. These Boom Racing HD Axle shaft required no modification whatsoever. Goes in perfectly.

Some how I missed taking a picture of the axle tube inside the axles for the rear, but here it is all put back together.

Time to get started on the front axles. Front axle shafts require no modification to fit through the axle tubes.

Getting that axle tube in. It's a tight fit, and on top of that not all AR60's are exactly the same. These tubes fit easily on the short side for the most part. On the long side, I had to bust out the hammer to get them in there. I had an easier time with the front axle accepting the tube on the long side than the rear.

Here is the axle tube inside the housing

Putting on the lower half of the GDS Racing drive shafts.

Axles all done.

Grave Digger Upgrade Part 3: Suspension & Steering

Time to finish up the bulk of the remaining upgrades. Mostly suspension and steering related.

Axial RR10 Bomber Rear Sway bar AX31331 (for use in SMT10 front axle)
STRC CNC Machines Aluminum Reinforcement Lower Link Plate (Green)
Aluminum Upper Chassis Links
SSD RC Titanium Steering Links
DS3218MG 20kg Servo
Boom Racing 25T Aluminum Servo Horn

Got these generic "RCAWD" aluminum upper links from eBay

Old noodle links vs new aluminum links

Rear upper links installed

STRC link plates to strengthen the lower links.

Had an issue where one of their screws just wasn't long enough.. happens to be the only one that is a cap head and not countersunk screw. Luckily I had some longer ones from my Yeti's stainless steel screw upgrade exercise.

Upper links and Link plates all added...

Front sway bar added

DS3218 20kg Servo mounted up

SSD RC steering links going on...

Using my favorite Boom Racing low profile servo horn.

SSD steering links all mounted up

Grave Digger Upgrade Part 4: Wheels & Tires

The JConcepts Tribute wheels and Firestorm tires were the finishing touch. It looks great, and it runs great.

JConcepts Tribute Wheels 2.6x3.6 (White)
JConcepts Firestorm Tires (Blue Compound)

Completed Upgraded look. I used the longest offset adapter on the JConcepts Tributes
