Default Axial SMT10 Max-D

This is my second MT,I already had a WK,wich I sold and now I had to grab my hands on a SMT10 as it's being discontinued and it's half price nearly. What shoul I look first on the truck?Planing on doing universals9vanquish or axial) and swapping the electronics with a brushless setup

I opted not to go universals in the end. If you add large wheels and tires... it doesn't really make a difference... you can only turn as far as the tires will let you.

Anyway, the very first thing I'd do is the transmission gears and housing.

You can see my build thread here.

Take the transmission apart and put loctite on the screws holding the diff locker together. They like to back out and make a real mess inside the transmission.

Where have you seen an SMT10 for nearly half price? The best I've seen for a new RTR is $330.

Thanks,
MP

I've occasionally seen them go down to $275 on Tower Hobbies. This was back before they changed ownership. I don't know if it still happens.

Thanks, that'd be around 340usd posted though. I'm still waiting for a deal. I should just get a slider though because I don't want the wheels and body.

I don't see that happening unless they are discontinued. Max-D has been discontinued, but as far as I know Grave Digger is still in production.

Max D is the one I'm more interested in. The green chassis of the Grave Digger doesn't lend itself to body changes.

Lots of people use Rit dye on the Digger chassis to make it black. Works well.

Or, do what I did, and buy a black take-off chassis on eBay.

Congrats on the Max-D, Traulus! What mods are you planning for it?

Thanks.I have moved all the electronics from my good old trusty Wheely King.Castle Creations Sidewinder SCT edition and Castle motor, Savox WP servo and for the begining I have replaced the rear open diff with a locked one.Front one is still open, will see how it goes, maybe will replace the fron one aswell with a locked one.And ofcourse, the grease is absent nowerdays in the cars, so i had to grease it with some marine lithium grease. As I will start to break things, will be upgrading

I think the stock steering is so bulky because it's plastic. If it was as thin as steel links it would have snapped.
