Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body I have always liked the Tamiya Lunchbox but as an RC is was not great. I am building a 4WD Lunchbox around a Parma lexan body. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1b2dcd5b_h.jpg4WD Lunchbox by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body I am using an ECX Barrage frame because it fit the short wheelbase of the Lunchbox better than anything else I could find. I purchased a drop subframe from Aliexpress but it hasn't arrived yet. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3288...40b94c4dKMPB1W https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...befca448_h.jpgECX Frame by captaininsano1000, on Flickr It is going to ride on these 30 year old Proline Mashers. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...97d4fbc2_h.jpgIMG_9481 by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body I pulled a set of axles off my SCX10 and swapped out the lockers for open diffs. The spider gears were removed from an HPI RS4 MT that I had wrecked a few years ago. The opens diffs seem to turn pretty smooth. The original dog bones were in rough shape so more aliexpress parts went in. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...5b896ed2_h.jpgIMG_9482 by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body Cool kitbash build, my man! |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body Agreed, pretty cool! |

Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body My chassis drops arrived and I re-drilled them for the ECX Barrage plate. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...72c34fca_c.jpgLunchox 4X4 (1) by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body Getting the Chinese SCX gearbox to fit is going to be tough. I would love to have access to an HPI Wheeling King transmission but if I spend $60 in parts, that defeats the purpose of my junkyard build. I might clock the transmission to center the output shafts and build a plate to mount it. The ECX Barrage frame rails do not flair out in the middle like the SCX10 rails do. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a1f47a02_c.jpgLunchox 4X4 (3) by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
FAILURE! I can't make the drive shafts work. I just could not make the drive shafts work. There just wasn't enough space. I am going with Plan B. I am going to run two Brushless 380 motors. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...20e1d667_c.jpgFailure by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body All four upper links were made from one Axial link. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9f6c4f72_c.jpgLinks by captaininsano1000, on Flickr The shocks used here don't have enough travel for my final vision but they'll work fine for mock up. I will eventually have two identical brushless motors mounted. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2805dfce_c.jpgLunchbox Chassis by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body i like plan b. may i suggest plan c? a single outrunner from eflite. no trans. this is better than my mini monster. Sent from my LGMP260 using Tapatalk |

Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body The Coronavirus is delaying my Chinese build supplies. I am waiting on another gearbox and a couple of ESCs. |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body I used part of the tub from the original Tamiya Lunchbox. Rule 134 in the Lunchbox Racing Association rule book strictly states that trucks running in the modified class must retain 25% of the original chassis(I made this up, there is no Lunchbox Racing Association but there should be!) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f492deed_w.jpgLunchbox 4WD (1) by captaininsano1000, on Flickr I really just liked how well the 2 ESCs fit in the existing receiver box. I figured it would also keep mud out of the inside. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ed8fda41_w.jpgLunchbox 4WD (2) by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |
Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body I bought these shocks from Aliexpress. They are great quality for the price. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3301...27424c4dXgbGyX https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3f71d518_z.jpgIMG_0437 by captaininsano1000, on Flickr |

Re: Junkyard Build Using SCX10 Axles, ECX Frame, And Lunchbox Body Wow that Lunchbox body brings back some memories. That was my first real RC. Probably in the mid 80s. |
