Default Post up your local and how far your willing to travel for a comp or GTG!

This posting is mainly for the MiRCa members but anybody can post up.

Everybody is feeling the gas crunch these days and yet we still want to get together to comp and do GTG's. I propose a shout out with where your at, how far your willing to travel and maybe if your willing to carpool someplace! I'm asking this of you so I can possibly take a small census and maybe I can find a neutral location someplace not so far away from everybody. Or maybe it will at least let us know where the other members are from. After I get some feedback on this matter I will get in touch with some lanscape supply, stone depot's or anyone else I can think of to see if they would be willing to let us hold some sort of meeting or something. I also ask that now the weather is better we all keep an eye out for local parks in our own areas that might be a suitible arena for GTG's, I'm not going to push new comps at this time but want to expand the list of areas we can go to include something on the east side for those that are not west of Telegraph.

I'm in Roseville.

Right now I travel 40 miles or so for the comp spots. I would go more, but prefer car pooling at that point.

I'd go quite a distance if we get a car pool organized...

Start giving me some major crossroads to go buy.

I want to start searching for spots that are easy to acsses, like Auburn Hills and Mejers in White lake. I'm thinking that somewhere along the 696 coridor or m-59 would work best. I wont limit my search to those area's but they seem to be central to us now. For my first area I'd like to check out Cranbrook. They have alot of acreage and some nature trails and since they are a science/nature center they might be up for the whole "Take your kid out and play" thing.

I guess im kindy expecting some different things when it comes to a location
so far meijers im probably going to pass on

there is a shopping center on 7-8 mile and haggerty ny champs and target that looks inviting also im going to snap some shots of that soon

I live at Cass-Elizabeth and Cooley Lake Rd. (the North end of Cass Lake)

I dont have a problem with how far the comps are if there is car-pooling. I've got a 4 bager alero which gets I think about 23-25mpg (metric gages just havent done the real math yet)

Cranbrook probably would but the problem with that place is we would need to ask first. When my wife and I were having engagement photo's taken out there our photographer said she had been kicked out of there several times for taking pictures. So I can just imagine how they would react if our motley crew showed up.

For reference I'm at 696 and Grosbeck.

I too have most places scoped, but like Bobby mentions they are private property and finding the owner might be tricky at best.

I'm either gong to start contacting owners or city and township offices first. City parks are always best of course. The next best thing in my opinion is city drainage area's and those will mostly be fenced but with the right pull we could get them opened, in hopes. I have found a drainage area on Silverbell and Laperee Rd about 4 miles south of my house that is leftover from building a new office building about a year ago. I'll scope it out today with the camera and let you know how that works out. Nobody has leased space in that building yet, or at least not as many as they built for. Cranbrook was just a thought but any locations anybody finds let me know where they are and I'll track the people down that can give us the permission. Sometimes when I'm not an As*Hole I can be pretty persuasive!

I'm willing to go just about anywhere. The whole carpool thing is great idea, to help members to save a little money. I'm at Union Lk. and Commerce Rd.

I live in marlette, 21 miles north of m-53(van dyke) and I-69. But I'm new to this and will probably go anywhere to get better and meet all you freeks who have the same addiction I do. My drive for this sunday is about 100 miles.

Man this sucks, all of the comp.s are on the east side. How about a couple in the grand rapids area?

if u find some good places ...take some pictures of them and post em

make sure your rig is in the picture on the rocks....so we can see what it looks like

and im sure we can set something up to host a comp

with gas prices the way they are ...we need to carpool and we dont want to travel the state just to find out that its not a good spot to comp
