- Project: Tundra -

As much as I enjoy my LMC, but it's time that I decided to build something that will go faster than 3km/h. So, recently I found this 1/24 scale Toyota Tundra R/C, actually I've seen it for a while now. Ordered one last week and it finally came in the mail today.

The body seems pretty decent.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMGP2407.jpg

Here's what I planning to use on this build, a 1/36 Micro-T. Pretty much stock at the moment, other than the 7.4V 180mAh 2-cell Li-Po battery.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMGP2409.jpg

Unfortunately, this is not what I was expected...the body is way too narrow...

To be continued...

Were you planning on doing an IFS front and Solid axle in the rear like the 1:1? I sure hope so :D I was going to try that for my 4runner but couldn't find anything that came close to the right width.

I'll be watching this one "thumbsup"

I was planning to do that. But then I decided I will keep the stock Micro-T rear end, I really like how smooth the suspension is.

Update: Got some new parts in and in the progress of widening and extending the body.

- Micro-T chassis set.
- F/R threaded axle set.
- Atomic F/R A.W. rims.

Starting of the body work.

This is how narrow it is compare to my Hilux.

Do you have any clue on how long and wide the body was before you started choping it up? Great start by the way, very interested of what you have planed for the extended "sections".

The width of the body was about 65mm before, now its 73mm wide. It's almost 10mm wider, yet still can't get those axles to hide under the body. As for the length, I will still need to extend the bed.

Update: Got some bearings in the mail today!

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2404-1.jpg

Also got some more work done on the front end. Laid down more styrene sheets.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMGP2402.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2403-1.jpg

Then added some putty.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2406-1.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2407-2.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2408-1.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMGP2411.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2412-2.jpg

Still need to get to work on the left side and fix that dent on the hood.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2413-1.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...r/IMGP2414.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2415-1.jpg

Also started to work on the headlight. Made the right side headlight, it will looks more scale compare to the other one.

Dr. Kustom 04-15-2011 11:43 PM

Update: Extended the rear wheel wells.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2403-2.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2404-2.jpg

Did some more sand on the front end.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2405-1.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2406-2.jpg

Applied more putty and fixed the dented hood.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2407-3.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2411-1.jpg

Primed it and more sanding.

You're doing some nice surgery there, Doc.

My concern will be the speed of the Micro T & an impact w/ a wall or something. That body might grenade pretty spectacularly.

mycrors7 04-16-2011 09:52 AM

as usual, very nice
though, you gotta remember one thing

the micro-t series is a stadium truck.
the front arms are angled toward the rear
as the front compresses, the front wheels move back, which in term shorten the wheelbase

Dr. Kustom 05-12-2011 07:47 PM

Update: Sold the Micro-T a while ago, and recently purchased a NIB Micro High Roller. So far got full ball bearings set, threaded axles, both from Losi. Then an unknown rear gear box.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2411-2.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2413-3.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2415-2.jpg

I really don't like AM since I tried out 2.4GHz, so the stock ESC and servo have to go, upgraded to Losi Micro Rock Crawler DSM 2.4GHz ESC with 3 wires servo. I also switch back to the stock rear gear box, IMO it's smoother.

Update: Took some Atomic Mini-Z AWD rims and Atomic Micro-T rims, combine them to make my own rims.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2403-5.jpg

Cut the wheel hub off the Micro-T rims and weld it to the Mini-Z rims.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2402-1.jpg

Added a lip to give some aggressive off-set.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2405-4.jpg

A mock up.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2407-4.jpg

3 piece rim.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP2408-2.jpg

Add some style to the rim.

That left front fender is not finish yet, still need some more styrene. Here's a mock up on the chassis.

Dr.Kustom your skills never cease to amaze me. This thing is going to look killer when you get it done. great job man great job.

Awesome build. I think I have seen that Tundra R/C, but I thought it was 1/24 scale? Either way, loving the progress.

Thanks Crawl Wonder! That Tundra R/C was listed to be 1/24, but the body was more like 1/30. Just like the Losi Micro High Roller, the body is 1/36 but the chassis looks more like 1/24. :ror:

Update: New wheels with mock up pics!

Here you can see many layers of styrene sheet were used to create the new fender. Still need to fill up the gaps on the bottom.
