| Youngblood's Commando
Start this off with a picture of my 1:1 wheeling rig at the PAJeeps show a few months ago. It's a 1972 Jeep Commando with factory 304 V8, chevy 1 ton axles, and 39.5" Irok's. I had my Losi for a total of 5 minutes before I had it completely torn apart for this build. I love these little Losi axles! Its hard to believe I used to think SSMT axles were the shit. FYI, these tires scale out to be about 42" tall. Just a couple mock up shots, more to come. |

Nice 1:1, who needs the 225 V6 when you have the 304. The scaler is looking great as well.

Love the body i have been hunting for bodys and found this one i think at RPP and i thought, that body looks kinda cool but know after seeing close up pics and a real 1:1 rig that its modeled after it may be put on top of the list. cant wait to see the progress

Nice 1:1 my old man had one of those for years, lots of good times. I remember the top would take four guys to take off. I always wanted to buy it from him and convert the front to the earlier grill, but he ended up getting rid of it about ten years ago

Thanks guys Little History, When AMC bought the Jeep name from Kaiser around 71' or so, they re-designed the Jeepster's grill to compete with the early ford bronco's and IH scouts. The main change was the front clip, now known as a "bullnose". Quote:

Here it is with the trans mounted. There is no way to get around the fact that the motor/tranny are going to take up the area of the 2 front seats... :-( Battery and ESC will go under the hinged hood. -YB | ||

Shaved all the unnecessary ball mounts off of my axles today to make room for my new springs and gain a little diff clearance. Used a disc sander and a dremel very carefully, and finished with some 100 grit sandpaper. Also put a skim of CA on the top of the housings to keep them closed tight, being very careful to not let it get to the bearing/pinion. BEFORE: AFTER: And the new springs. Made from a clock spring out of an old nitro pull starter (old trick from the SSMT days ). Left is the rears at 2.125 eye to eye, rights are the fronts, 1.875 in length. -YB |

Looks like the way you trimmed the axles gave you some near perfect spring pads for the leafs! Great work, can't wait to see what you come up with.

Definitely the most scale build-up so far; can't wait to see more! It'll be interesting to see how much flex you're able to get outta those springs....maybe need some Z-Boxes or Revolver shackles, hahaha. ...keep it up! |

Pretty nice build you got going on. I wish I seen the 1:1 at the PAJeeps show. I went on sat morning when they opened up. My wife wasn't feeling good so we only stayed for two hours. What is the width on the axles for the micro? I have a geeper body for my mini I was hoping might make a good scaler with the micro. My wife just ordered a micro for me for X-mas. |
