Default Da Menehune Build

I've always wanted to turn my 1:24 models into real running rides. Thanks to a close friend, I'm now an owner of a 2nd hand Trekker. Just got it yesterday. It RTR stock. Here's the plans:

-CrawlerX 4.5 leafer (ordered)
-Hitec HS-5065 (ordered)
-Holmes Hobbies BR-Mini
-DDT 90T
-De-cased R2104GF receiver (I'll be using my 4PL for this rig)
-~350mAh Lipo
-Gearhead or RC4WD wheels

Unknown body yet. Probably a hilux with truggy rear cage.

No pics yet. You guy don't need to see a stock Trekker. Lol.

Got my Baja's and decided to try widening wheels. Came out clean. I use this same method on 1.9 Axial 8-hole wheels.

Servo also came in today. Might install it this weekend.

McMaster also has M2 button heads. They're either a 1mm or 1.2mm hex. I have some, but don't have a driver. They would look even cleaner.

Got everything collected. Opted for the Sidewinder Micro instead of the BR Mini. De-cased one of my R2104GF receivers. Installed the DDT 90T motor. Chassis mounted the Hitec servo. Threw in a Turnigy 260mAh 2s. Runs pretty well. Now I need to find a model kit that fits. The toughest thing about building micro scale is the wire management. I'm finding it hard to tuck everything away.

Here's a couple pics:

No bump steer. I added a spacer to the knuckle pivot and added a spacer under the servo horn. The steering link sits pretty level at ride height.

It does but barely. I had to shave the threads on the ball. I fine tuned my EPA's too. Wish I could get more throw, but oh well. It still does pretty well. I can't expect the same performance as my 1:10 scaler. Lol.

Finally found a Toyota that didn't break the bank! The kit is almost 20yrs old! Lol.

Mounted up the cab. Had to stretch the chassis as long as it could go. The SMC 5.5 would have been a better choice. Oh well.

Bed on...

The wheelbase on this Lindberg 1/20 is 130mm. I think 1/20 matches this running gear better then 1/24. I'm diggin it. My 1/10 is getting neglected. Lol.

I built this same kit on the 5.5 chassis. I just love the Toyota's! I built two versions that could be switched out. One with the stock bed, and also a truggy rear with a three link. It attaches to the back where the rear frame can detach. There is a thread for it in the Losi micro section called "R.Billy Rob's first build". Can't wait to see what you do with yours!

RBR: You're rig is awesome! I love the swappable cage/bed. I'm thinking about ordering a 5.5 for this body. I'll use the 4.5 for the other Trekker.

You might run into similar wheelbase problems with the 5.5. I set mine up as short as it goes, and it was still just over stock wheelbase. I just worked with it by opening the wheel wells a little. Also I agree that the 1:20 is the best scale for these micro's. I went crazy and bought several Lindburg 1:20 kits for future builds.

Wheels and tires. Wheels and tires. That all us Hawaiians ever think about. Hahahahahaha

Menehune has shoes! PVC pipe sleeve is awesome. Allows the stock rings to lock solid.
