xmod gen 1 motor in gen 2 car

so can you just solder on the wires needed for the gen 2 connector onto a gen 1 motor?
looking at ebay there are gen 1 stage 2 motor packs... each are 30k motors but with different pinions on.
can i use these in a gen 2?

I know this is old but I'll answer it.

You can but I believe you also need to pull the brass pinion and press the plastic evo pinion on
