Default "Scrappy" the grocery getter S-10 Blazer

This weekend I started a new project. It seems silly whith 4 other projects, and no free time, but I felt I needed a new start on something. I just finished all the fab work on my Twin Hammers Sand Scorcher build, so it's ready for paint. Right now though, it's too cold out to paint so I wanted to start more fab work. Being kinda "bugged out" right now, so to speak, I didn't feel like working on my 1/20 scale class 5 Baja Bug. And I wasn't feeling my Hilux truggy, or the rebuild of my Micro T 1/20 Camaro into a Mad Max style car. So I started looking through my parts drawers, and my model kits, and found some inspiration. I ended up with a CrawlerX 5.5 frame, a used set of Trekker axles, some used Danally wheels with Sumo rings on the rear, and predator rings on front. I mounted a set of used Rock crushers I got from another member on them. I also had a cheap Chinese 10a ESC, an MG90S servo, an aluminum HR tranny case, and a Danally 90t lying around, so they will all get thrown in the mix. After finding all these parts, I almost had a crawler. I just needed a body. I'm not sure why I settled on this body, but I did. A Chevy 4 door S-10 Blazer. Not my favorite ride. But something about it felt right. Maybe it's because building with so many used parts, it gives me a real "junkyard" feel for this build. So far I've already got the body mounted, made a place for the battery in the rear, and mounted a ID pull badge "winch" up front. Now it's just bumpers, sliders, and a roof rack. This should be a rather quick build. Here's a little pic of the truck so far:

Nice! the speed at which you built that from salvage parts makes my head spin a little, puts my little truck to shame on how long its taking me to get a driver back. So, this is a scrap heap basher, meant to look aged beat down and capable, or gonna lower her some, make her a daily driven 4x? Maybe you will have time to start an expedition trailer and outhouse next? Need more bad ideas on using up your non existent spare time??

Don't worry, I'm full of bad ideas for wasting my non existent spare time. Like a scale garage, or a 4' by 16' scale crawling diorama across the back of my real garage, complete with an outhouse. I figure if the space is already there... I could definitely keep myself busy for a long time.
As for this truck, I figure it'll be more of the redneck backyard build type theme nothing too fancy. I'm struggling with what color to paint it. Maybe an olive drab or Light sand color with flat black. Once again, just thinking of what I have laying around.

I got a little bit of work done tonight. I was able to knock out a rear bumper with gas can, and spare.

I wasn't exactly happy with the ride height, but I didn't want to lower the body any more on the frame because I would have had to cut into the floor at that point. I don't like losing the interior if at all possible. So I was playing around, and did a wheel swap with my Toyota, "Ol' Blue", and kinda liked what I saw. The Boggers fit the space much nicer, and the Rock Crushers actually looked nice on Ol' Blue!

So it looks like the Boggers will stay on the Blazer. Because of Shapeways cybermonday sale, I ordered a set of Fungi's wagon wheels for Ol' Blue. Toyota's with wagon wheels are a timeless combo, it just seemed "right".

I got a start on a front bumper, kinda a heavy duty bruiser type! I'll end up cutting the square ends at an angle, making a lead for the winch, and doing a little tube work around the top. At the rate this ones coming together, it might be the quickest build of mine yet! Usually it takes me months on a build, but this ones only got about a week and a half on it. Only problem is, I have everything I need, except for a transmission center shaft gear. I can't seem to find any anywhere also. They seem to be on back order.

Just found a Losi gear set on EBay! Now we'll be in business! I hope to bust out the rest of the fab work this weekend, so I can get to painting. I've got a few things lined up to paint.

Don't worry, it's not staying. I think I've come up with something absolutely horrific for a paint job. Let's just say I like bright colors.

Ok, I was able to finish off the front bumper, complete with winch fair lead, and add a set of sliders along the side. I still have to make a roof rack, and add a little clearance for the motor. Then she's done! Here's a little pic of the front bumper, and sliders.

Roof rack is done! Now I have to throw together my transmission, so I can see how much of the floor I need to cut out. And that's it! Not much left now!

Got the motor and tranny in. Also mounted the servo, and driveshafts. Got the floor cut open, now I just need to close it in.
