Default How are you guys painting/masking these tiny hard bodies?

Just ordered the Orlandoo jeep. I have never done a hard body before. I am wanting to just do one solid color, and then paint the roof area and fender flares matte black. How are you guys masking these to do the detail areas? Are you just hand painting the roof and fender flares?

Also, will the tamiya rattle cans that I use for lexan bodies work OK? Or is there another brand/type of paint that you like for these?

Thanks a ton for the help. I'm excited to build this teeny tiny little kit!

Don't use lexan paint on hardbodies - Tamiya also do a TS range which is what you need! (If you're UK based, Halfords do automotive paint that's good, but always make sure to use primer)

Tamiya Color Spray Paints

For my F-150, I just hand painted Humbrol Enammel Matt Black on the fenders etc.

Another option is to get someone else to paint it!

Thanks for the tips!

I will look for some TS paints at my local store, and plan on painting the roof and flares by hand.

I use blue painters tape and pin striping tape (same stuff used on real cars). The pin striping tape (forget what its actually called) is perfect for edges and leaves nice clean lines, but so does the blue tape if you make sure its firmly adhered to the surface..

Thats how I painted my hummer. I did the same theme you are referring to:
