| Mattracks on The Trekker
Hey guys. I got some 3-d printed Mattracks installed on my Trekker. Unfortunately I don't have any snow to drive them on at the moment, but I did take some short videos of them driving up the infamous Dogrock and other spots in my backyard. So far they are a lot of fun! A couple pics and a video: Enjoy, Here's some short videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-2A...ature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nBPxv7x7CY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP8LbCB5YWs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SamQzaDXNns https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXnBSh-uTFQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKQDk5AS3oE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hEo7mEF7_8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUSvfyvCJlg Last edited by cleanandserenesteve; 12-24-2016 at 11:53 PM. |

Just a few things I've observed so far; -Pretty much all the holes had to be bored out with a 2mm drill bit. No big deal at all b/c building them is half the fun! -These clearly make the motor work harder, but I have a Danally 90T motor, so it does just fine. I wouldn't use these if I had a stock motor, it just doesn't have the low end torque, and they really do need it. I also have an aluminum spur gear and brass pinion to make it more "bullet proof". -They obviously don't do too well on rocks just like the real size ones. They will definitely out perform any tire on this Trekker on snow, loose dirt, and sand. -4-wheel steering is a must in my opinion for using these. I have 4-wheel steer on the Hummer, so it has a nice radius as is. -One can actually go surprisingly fast (well, fast for a worm-geared Trekker) on these things. I have two Trekkers, both with Danally motors and identical gearing with similar weight and C.O.G., And the Mattrack equipped one is just slighty slower at full throttle on flat ground in a straight line. I remember the inventor of these mounting one of the assemblies to a household drill and going full speed with the trigger, and the tracks held up fine and did not dislodge, so they can take abuse. -Loctite and a dab of super glue on the tip of each screw is an absolute must as there are many moving parts and it tends to fall apart without reinforcement. -They only work with the stock plastic C-hubs, although I'm sure the mounting arms could be slightly modified to use them on Hot Racing aluminum parts. Super glue is also a must on the mounting arms and rubber that goes inside of them. -It is rather time-consuming to switch between these and tires, so it's good to put them on a rig where they will be used for a good amount of time. -The craftsmanship is great considering that except for the hardware they are all plastic. Ball bearings as the idler/road wheels is also a nice touch and they spin like a dream. -They look amazing and I can't wait to try them on some snow Last edited by cleanandserenesteve; 11-14-2016 at 08:59 PM. |
