Default Locked Up's Ambush

"Pan down. I want ......"
Oh wait, that's from something else.

As a kid, I loved Stompers.
Power them up and they drive forever (in kid time) in a straight line. I remember running them down the sidewalks, through streams .... I think I had one that had flotation/paddle tires too?!

Anyway,
When I saw a deal on a Proline Ambush I snatched it up. I was somewhat expecting an RC version of that Stomper. Something I could drive across the keyboard and terrorize the cat with (but never catch it).

Reality set in when I opened the box.

The reality that I can't have nice things because of ... me.
Immediately upon opening the box my brain started troubleshooting the body mounting, articulation, weight distribution, steering throw.

I suspect I'll end up destroying this thing in an effort to make it bullet proof.

So, the battery is still charging and here is what I have found so far.

1. These things are small.
That is a 1.9 (not yet released - you saw it here first).

2. The body mounting system must be off from the factory.

3. I might be the only one that notices the servo catches on something well before you get to full stuff.

Body seems easy enough to remedy. The mounts are adjustable height and mine was set to zero so the velcro was not catching.

Easy fix.

Later on I might lower that and trim the body to sit lower.

Next I went after the rubbing issue with the servo.

After some mild trimming.

Not 100% stuffed but better.

I also removed the front internal springs because there was very little articulation.
I know, I know ... Stompers had zero articulation.
I only removed the front because I'm used to a softer front and firm rear... I blame my love of XJs.
Yes, you sick bastards go ahead and make that sexual somehow.

Ohhh ... the lights are green. Time to play!

Might have to.

Definitely have to find a new wheel nut wrench.
I tried to take the wheel nuts off and it stripped out immediately!

Small tip, if your going to leave the battery in t he stock location, 1/2oz worth of stick on wheel weights go a long way on the bottom of the cross member th hat the battery box is on. And there's room on the back of the servo for another 1/4oz.

It's really helped the front end stay down on mine.
