Re: WPL C14 Finally got mine today. Waited almost a month. They sent me a free "gift" of a cheap crappy screwdriver which arrived before my kit was even shipped. My box was munched pretty good but it all seems to be in one piece. Thinking about hitting the cab with some plastic model paint to make it unique. Gotta get my 3D printer going again for spare parts, after I fix an oil pan leak on the pickup to finish the motor swap. This kit might wait a couple weeks. Don't even have an ESC or receiver for it yet. |
Re: WPL C14 Met with a setback using the small hardware. Ended up robbing some bolts out of a spare set of beadlocks to get the shocks mounted. The 1/18 Gelande shocks are short to be functional so now sourcing another set. Need to figure out something for upper link material. I need to round up a proper, yet cheap, mini servo also. Assuming the stocker doesn’t have enough ass to turn the wheels. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c6be02fd14.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 Got my wpl together today just need an esc and it's runner. It needs some paint just not sure what color.Frame will black. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d702e2fa64.jpg Sent from my LG-H631 using Tapatalk |

Not this vendor, but it’s the same Chinese transfercase. Apparently copied from the GCM one. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F222132095707 |
Re: WPL C14 No wonder these things are so cheap, there's no rust-proofing at all. 8) https://preview.ibb.co/k4ngJx/IMG_5301.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/cBYMJx/IMG_5302.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 just got mine in yesterday. I got the rtr...no battery included though. the tires are really hard. I wish I had just ordered the kit since I'm going to try putting the slickrock drivetrain and electronics into it. I'm going to see if they'll refund me anything for the missing battery too. |
I just bit the bullet-- no idea why i do this to myself. Got the kit, 2s 1500mah lipo, 3channel radio/rec and 20a ESC for 54.94 @ Gearbest.. couldnt pass it up.. oops-- no battery.. ebayed a pair of batteries and now im all in for about 75.00.. Still thrilled at the cost.. Quote:

Wpl c14 My hand fab chassis wasn’t working out for me. So I Dremeled off those tabs and used the original chassis plates. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8814a6f56c.jpg I had cut the front half to tuck higher under the hood and over the fenderwells but I couldn’t bring myself to order some 60mm 1:10 scale shocks to maybe make it work. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bee7a66f49.jpg 1/18 Gelande shocks direct to frame. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8d7f820f91.jpg Scored some 1.55 RC4WD beadlocks recently and I’m hoping they’ll mount to the Yeti Jr. tires. Now patiently waiting for my m2 die to arrive from China. Maybe next week, maybe next month. LOL. Cheap build is getting drawn out because I want the $2 China die and not the $20 Amazon Prime die. Edit: Forgot about the servo I found in my junk boxes. I think it’ll do OK. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f0fc6b6497.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 I'm thinking about making a skid plate that will mount to the frame using the 4 lower link mount points on the frame and then putting the transfer case on that and then motor and trans up front. |
Re: WPL C14 watching this thread. are the wheels held on with nuts or screws or what. I am just trying to get an idea on how this thing is held together before maybe picking up a kit. looks fun. I seen the ecx barrage and thought it looked cool but these have a way better scale body |
Re: WPL C14 All screws. Plastic everywhere. For the cost of the WPL trucks you cannot complain though. Its dirt cheap to buy but puts a smile on your face when you get half decent electronics in them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: WPL C14 Any plastic paint should work. Tamiya has a large variety of colors as do the large cans at any big box store. |
Re: WPL C14 1 Attachment(s) Got mine today :) Started on a little sketch of the stock chassis rails for further modifications: Attachment 369361 |
Re: WPL C14 |
Re: WPL C14 Nice looking rig.Where did you mount the upper links on the frame? |
Re: WPL C14 It’s not the ideal setup but there isn’t any side to side slop. Having only 10mm of shock travel the angles don’t mean much either. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6dd11c553c.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 Looks good. |
Re: WPL C14 It got a little tricky. On each side of the transfer case is an m3 bolt where I bolted the battery tray to the floor pan. I had to drill a hole to do this but there is a support/standoff on the other side it makes up in. This stiffened it up a lot. Once it all is squared away I think I’ll two part epoxy this individual pieces as a single unibody. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8b67bf7297.jpg I still need to thread and attach the upper links, fab a steering link, wire the motor and ESC, and then it’ll be ready. LOL. It’s so cute. If there was only a reasonably good source of axles for this scale. |
Re: WPL C14 I may have missed this, but are those 1.55" wheels you're running? |
Re: WPL C14 Quote:
Yes. And the tires from my Yeti Jr. |
Re: WPL C14 While waiting on my m2 and an m2.5 die as well as some 2.5mm stainless rod to arrive, I figured I’d go ahead and superglue the links. LOL. It worked well on my micro Fungi Goat. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...87f0b94980.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 I'm finding attaching the links difficult but mostly because I don't have the proper hardware. I'm using the slickrock as my donor car and a lot of it's hardware screwed into a plastic frame/chassis so I don't have the nuts to fit on the hardware I have. It also came with a wacky 3 link suspension setup made of molded plastic that's way too wide for the WPL frame. it's looking like I might have to mod more and think further outside of the box than I was planning to. that's kind of the fun part of all this though. I'm going with slickrock shocks too though so angles are going to be crazy. I think I'm going to have to fab up a plate like those ones they have for the scx-10s to become mud trucks/monster trucks. https://i.imgur.com/57RZ4UA.jpg?1 |
Re: WPL C14 3 Attachment(s) I bought some GPM shocks for the Mini-T. Springs are a bit stiff, but size seems to be ok: Attachment 369464 My kit came with an extra motor, which is a few millimetres longer than the mounted one: Attachment 369465 N20 motor with punisher shaft vs. stock drivetrain: Attachment 369466 |
Re: WPL C14 Quote:
Lean those shocks over to about a 45* angle and see how it sits. |
Re: WPL C14 Is that a1/10 transfer case? |
Re: WPL C14 Quote:
Mine is and has 5mm output shafts. |

Re: WPL C14 Im using RedCat Everest 16 axles. I found some pretty decent scale wheels and tires. Just too damn busy with other projects... https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...924/auThVI.jpg |
Re: WPL C14 The only thing that steered me away from the Redcat axles was they are all the same front/rear steer. If you would, count how many turns in to turns out those are? |
