All Metal Gears in Losi Trans Complete

First off, thanks to Chevy55 for giving me the parts info and showing me his method, which I basically copied.

Change the 20t hole to 2mm and thickness to 2.5mm to save save yourself some time
Change the 50t hole to 4mm and thickness to 2mm
And make sure to change the material on both to brass unless I want the plastic

The spur and pinion are 10t brass and 55t aluminum. The others are brass at stock size. I wanted to do this ever since I had my Trekkers but didn’t know there were parts available. Anyway, enjoy:

One more set to go for my other Trekker. I progressively drilled the center hole to the size of shaft and then traced the square shape with an exacto knife, and finished it off with jeweler files:

Awesome!!, Could you please post the link for the 20t Gear? Also, from where did you buy those metal drive shafts?

Thanks in advance, MJ

And remember to increase the thickness to 2mm on each. Will save you from having to add shims

I did 2.5 mm thickness on the 20t one then you said change it to 2mm. Just to clarify which is it, I can file it a little but would like to clear this up for others.

Ok one more question, does the larger gear come with a square hole or a round hole? If it's round how did you etch the square shape in there accurately? And I think I'm done with the questions but I've already ordered so if I need to change something I need to do it quick .

2mm thickness on both gears & they come with round holes. To mark the square hole use the output shaft that the driveshafts attach to & scribe with a xacto knife "thumbsup"

Re: All Metal Gears in Losi Trans Complete

Cool thanks, but dang it I ordered 2.5mm on the 20t

Re: All Metal Gears in Losi Trans Complete

I think you’ll be fine with 2.5mm. It’s really the 50t that has to be 2mm. If he 20t makes things too tight of a fit just sand it down a bit. The bearing sticks out against the 50t while the bearing for the 20t lies flush in the housing from what I remember. You will probably have to shave it a bit that’s really easy with a flat surface and some
Sand paper

Re: All Metal Gears in Losi Trans Complete

The driveshafts are modded Orlandoo metal upgrades shafts with 3mm inputs on both ends. They are just a hair short for Trekker wheelbase so I used aluminum tubing to increase the length.

Awesome stuff! I'll be going this route or using Fungi's conversion bracket to run the RC4wd Mini trans. I think I like this idea though. Very nice work. We need more stuff like this. I wish someone would design some nice links for the trail trekker. I'd be in for sure. Something adjustable which I kinda sorta have but not the sturdiest or the best way to do it. But this is huge.

If anyone knows of any Hot Racing Aluminum transmission middle casings or knows of anyone with any for sale please let me know. I found a set on ebay and they just messaged me to let me know they were labeled wrong and they don't have them. I'm on the hunt for the middle case in aluminum or a whole transmission. Whatever I can find. I'm interested. I'm going to attempt this modification as well. All good infmoration. Thanks for the info!!
