which 1/24 should I get next?
 

So right now I have the Losi trekker and the hobby king rocksta.
And we share the radio between me and the kids.

What just drive and keep going without any upgrades as there are so many new 1/24 since I purchase this two.

I would be installing the big scrambler tires once they come back in stock.
That would be my only upgrade.

I think I would get 2 one for my 6yo cousin as well.

any recommendations?

Depends on what you're looking for.
Something a little different would be the
The 1/24 redcat sumo and the 1/24 HBX devastor have 4 wheel steer and can be great rock crawlers for under $100

The ECX barrage is more scale looking with a great chassis and decent suspension for $100, but it's a bit fast for a true technical crawler, but lots of fun to play around with.

The Ambush is out of stock and parts aren't exactly common so I wouldn't recommend that one for your use.

The Rc4wd mini gelande is classified as 1/18, but very similar in size and uses the same size wheels and tires as the 1/24 micros. It is very scale looking, but with more metal and details the price is up to $180-$190
Out of the box it's also not a great technical slow crawler, but a fun truck that looks great.

For a true 1/24 crawler that's more of a kit that works with 1/24 model bodies there is the Geko24 that looks great. I believe that's $150. You'll need to assemble it and add a few parts.

Smaller than 1/24 @ 1/36 though very popular are the Orlandoo models. They look great and seem to perform well for the size.

The devastator tires would probably suck though. The sumo looks better.

I own the 1/24 barrage and its a blast but can have clearance issues with the axles.

The gelande is cool but is a scalers wet dream. Performance is kinda garbage stock from what I hear.

I mean if you like the performance of the hobby king rocksta I would probably just buy more of them. Theres nothing inherently wrong with them or anything but I think performance wise that the basha rocksta is probably the best for the 1/24ths. I might get a scaler if I were you just to diversify your line up. Either the barrage or the gelande.

I always forget to add something.

I was looking more for a RTR. As close as possible to $100 if less better. Maybe 120 max for sure.
So that leave out the Gelande it does look nice. That geko24 look nice too.

What I don’t like much about the hobby king rocksta is the run time the trekker run twice as long on one pack. I am using 2s 350mah packs.

Hard to see is the sumo crawler also a MOA design?
So it look is between the sumo, hbx, barrage.

Can the Orlandoo handle trekker size tires?
The orlandoo would be easily over $120 I think plus the time to build.

Trekker tires would be pretty big on an Orlandoo, the Geko24 is very nice looking, but isn't RTR.
The Sumo,HBX,and Barrage are ring and pinion axles like the scx10 not MOA or worm.

You realize you can get a larger battery right?

Also the rocksta probably uses more battery because your using the 4ws. Performance costs energy. If you only used front end steer it would probably be closer. The 1/24 barrage I have probably gets close to 20mins on a charge and its easy to get an even longer time. You could probably get close to an hour run time on it if you bought the biggest battery that would fit.

I think it more likely uses more battery because of the dual motors compared to a scale crawler

I don't think you can fit a bigger battery on the rocksta.
but yea is because of the dual motor setup.

What would you say would be easier to put a hard body 1/24 scale on the HBX,Sumo style or Barrage.
which one is easier to get parts? any few pages you recommend.

I might get a orlandoo but later down the road.

yes, it look like I might end up with the Barrage after all, I just wanted to make sure I did not miss any other good RTR out there.

I think the HBX is out, I just realized the width is about 4.9'' it look like most 1/24 hard bodies are around 4'' not sure if having that extra .9'' would benefit or not.

The HBX and Sumo have the same exact axles. It's the wheels that add more width. The Barrage axles are also nearly the same width. Maybe 1mm difference and internally they are similar.
The barrage has a much more scale chassis so that's a head start, but if you want slow crawling performance the sumo and HBX have better transmissions for that.

Yea the Geko24 is a really nice looking setup. A little expensive to have a completely running rig, but worth it. It's 82mm from outside of wheel to outside of wheel according to the Geko24 group on FB

You can fit the nano tech 450mah, that's what I am running in mine works great.
I am waiting for some single 750mah cells and will be building a 2s pack from them that should fit in the standard battery compartment, hopefully.
I love my rocksta just needs slightly bigger wheels.

Good to know, I though the axles where different.
I already ordered the display model 1/24 body. I will see how it fit on the rocksta and trekker. But meanwhile I would order the barrage.

I wonder if someone already tried one of those trans on the barrage.

It does look nice, I dint like much the way you secure the wheels.


back when I purchase the ones I have these were the biggest confirmed that would fit the rocksta.

As far as the HBX axles being the same as the Sumo axles that's specifically speaking of the HBX devastor. Not sure what other crawlers they may have

One thing to keep in mind is replacement parts as well. With the HBX being a china import replacement parts are probably going to be non existant. If they are you will end up having to go through gearbest and they suck for shipping times.
