Default Old Ford Mega Mud Van (1/20 Scale)

As usual, I started another project without finishing others first. I had originally planned to make a Toyota mud truck, but this van kit on my shelf kept calling to me! So I mocked it up and fell in love! I think I’m going to go with a highway patrol theme since I have the lights for the top. Here’s a few mock up shots, and the start of the chassis.

Looking good. I started a build about a year ago with the same van model but gave up could never get the links right. Where did you get the frame and leaf springs?

The frame is a Blade 5.5 micro leaf chassis that used to be available through crawlerx for the Losi’s. It’s literally the last one ever made! It’s been discontinued for awhile, so I contacted Blade through this site, and he made one for me. And those are the brass wheel wideners for the Trekker, and I did get them from fleabay The tires I got awhile ago from MGcrawler when he was casting them. And the wheels are Fungi’s off of Shapeways.

I’ve gotten a little bit more done. Not too much, but progress. I’ve got the lower links in, the driveshafts in, and got the van chassis all mounted up. It looks like there will be plenty of room in the engine bay under the doghouse for the electronics. And I’ll place the battery underneath in the back somewhere. I’ll also have to figure out how to add some shocks on this this as it’s very top heavy. Body roll will suck with this thing.

I wish there were more of them. They have been my favorite tire so far. Not so good on the rocks, but great in mud and dirt.

Decided to dig this old thing out and finish it. I did end up putting some shocks on it. And I got the interior in. To be honest, this thing is really close to being done. At least with fab work, but then there’s always paint. Anyway, here’s a few pics.

Thanks Adam! I’m pretty excited to see this one finally getting finished up! It’s definitely about time! It’s been sitting for a long time, like all my projects I’m really trying to bring more scale aspects back to this sub-forum.
So I got a little more done on this thing today. It’s really starting to take shape! There’s still more to be done, but it’s definitely getting closer to paint. As you can see by the pic’s I’m definitely having some fun with this one!

I’ve still been working on this one, just haven’t posted much lately. In fact I’ve finished all the fab work! I enclosed the engine compartment for the electronics, as well as made a battery compartment. The battery compartment is hidden in the back under a rear-mounted radiator. I’ve got everything ready for paint now. And it’s a good thing because the next few days should be around 65-70 degrees! So I hope to get some painting done.

I know you mentioned a CHP theme, but I'm just gonna leave this here.
