Default Wpl... which one..where do I start

So looking to get a c24 or maybe another version. Is the rtr a waste? Should I go kit? Does kit come with anything better than rtr or strictly just no electronics. I seen someone post metal gears for axle so it got me thinking maybe I need one of these guys for indoor winter fun. Had considered barrage 1/24 but these look cooler. Any suggestions on best route to go appreciated.

I've ordered several intending to upgrade them for the grandkids Christmas presents. The RTR are pretty weak on motor and electronics, the kits your're putting in your own stuff anyways. The units themselves seem very will built. Some I bought just for parts as I have some old Tonka stuff I was going to convert but these just look so good themselves. I don't know how they get them out the door for less than $35 with free shipping. The latest one I got the Q60 (6X) RTR already came with a decent steering servo.

I bought my first RtR (in the mail atm) only because it came with metal gears (confirmed by other buyers)

Otherwise I swear by the kits, save the cash on the crap and buy better.

suggested upgrades: metal in the entire drive assembly, gears, shafts, ect.

I remember reading that one does. But it’s technically not a “WPL”, it’s a rebrand IIRC. I just don’t remember which one now.

came with proportional steering and a 2 cell lipo. they appear to be small round cell and not flat pack. the capacity isn't great. but it was a surprise over the standard Nihm packs.

havent really dug too deep into it yet, just arrived the other day, but for the price it seems like a really good stinkin deal.

with all this weight up top however it REALLY needs some oil dampeners, it wiggles A LOT as it drives around!

The Ural is, basically, the ‘next-gen WPL truck. Metal gears, fully proportional throttle ànd steering, soft compound tires, etc.

And it looks AWESOME! Tòns of space for gizmo’s like lighting, sound and smoke, too.
When my MAN KAT1 is in, I’m going to order an Ural comm-truck.

By the by, I believe that a 2s 1800mah LiIon will fit too. At least it fits the C24. Runs forever on that.

Well. After a bit of time with the MAN Kat1 ànd the C24 Yota, I cannot recommend the C24 as a starter car, honestly. It needs a lòt of metal upgrade components to be half-way durable, even the kit. The tiny 130 motor taken from the JJRC MAN, shredded the c24’s small-pitch gears in the axles in no-time short. The JJRC MAN has plastic gears, but it’s a much coarser, sturdier pitch. Despite the added weight of a full sound system and a speaker, ànd a high-torque 180 motor, I have yet to strip any gears.

Ìf You still want that Yota ( and, frankly, it looks fantastic) do Yourself a favor and immediately order metal geared axles with it. It’s about $10.- or $15.- extra, a tiiny price to pay for added dependability.
The current-gen WPL’s dó seem to have sturdier drive shaft couplers, so they do not require replacing immediately.

Also, the drive-shaft sleeves in the Yota need a bit of cutting, because at full compression, they bind. No more than 2mm needs to be grinded/cut. Properly deburr after cutting, otherwise the sliding will be somewhat coarse.

EDIT:

Well, it seems that WPL already has a v 2.0 C24 in the shops. People that ordered very recently got the RTR with a true servo, and brass gears and pinions in the pumpkins . Wow. They're quickly moving their cars from " nice looks, but will eat gears" to "Can be run like a hobby-grade for a bit, until fancy parts are in" For now, however, it's a bit of a pot-shot what version one gets, until the stock of first-gen WPL's is sold out, there's no guarantee You'll get the better one.

My first C24 will be here today, the C14 who knows lol. I have a bunch of upgrades picked out for both but won't be ordered for a week or so due to Xmas shopping lol. The plan for now is to get all paint work and detailing done first and work on better steering geometry. I do have my servos sitting on the shelf ready to go though. I'm not even assembling any of the drivetrain until the upgrades come.
