| Scx24 Hardbody project
Starting this thread after it’s mostly built and didnt do to well taking pics while building but let’s get up to speed on where the truck is at now. Originally didn’t know where this build was gonna go but the local hobby shop had other plans in mind so a new rig and new model kit later and here we are. Made it home and the thing just exploded. Welp minus well get the links made to extend the wheelbase. Took the factory links and chopped them in half and glued them in some brass tubing and bam it matches the body. It’s about 5/8” longer than stock wheel base. The drive shaft was next on the list and couldn’t have been easier thanks to axial. Using the extra driveshaft half they included and a cut up make end and it’s a mini wildbore hd shaft. Last edited by scxscaler; 06-08-2019 at 10:08 PM. |

Now it was time for some new wheels as tires that fit the body well and I went a bit overboard on my tire obsession. Now that they are taken car of getting the body where i wanted was next. After moving the electronics to get the body as low as I possibly could I set to cutting some holes in the bed. I wanted to keep the body easily removable yet secure so some harbor freight neo magnets and e6000 came to the rescue. Once the body was mounted some trimming was needed for the tires to clear and a quick styrene esc mount was made so it was drivable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Then disaster struck. It was time for paint so a trip to the store, a quick scuff with some 400 grit, and then a wipe down with alcohol and it was ready to go. And here’s where things went wrong. Believe it or not this is with clear coat. Decided to see what a quick polish would do since this was ruined in my book. It came out a lot better and usable but far from perfect. So went ahead and painted the bed matte black. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nice work, I think the paint turned out pretty good Can you weigh your truck? I've been obsessing over the weight of everything on this rig. I'd like to try a hard body but I'm gonna wait to get a 2nd SCX24 so I can have a lightweight and a heavyweight version. It looks like you had to open up the fender wells a bit for clearance, correct? |

I’ll have to get a scale and see what it weighs. I kinda want a second to make a all out Preformance rig. This one does better than stock imo. And yes some trimming was needed. It still rubs but only when turning at full lock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Played around with mirroring the trans. Mainly to give me some room to mount the esc lower for a possible interior depending on how cut up it would have to be. Stock : Mirrored: When mirrored the link mounts all remain in the same location. But the driveshaft length will change. The front needs to be longer and the rear shorter. My stock front one seems to be working fine tho and the rear had to be shortened a few mm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wrapped some sandpaper over a handle for a posthole digger and then rubbed the hardbody back and forth to make matching round fender wells. Granted this a Losi Micro Rally chassis and is toyish looking. The concept is there. |

Had a chance to get it on the scale. One thing I’ll say for the hardbody vs the stock lexan is that the weight is more uniform where as with the stock body it’s all up at the top. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Small update. Changed out the front shock towers/electronics tray out for a tray designed by humboldtef on here. Also got a tower pro mg90s (rebranded) servo in and wanted to do minimal cutting on the axle to fit it. All that was needed was a little slot cut for the wires. Also shaved the ears of the servo down to make it clear the chassis under full flex. And sanded the bumper out to clear the servo under full compression in any way. Can’t tell it was cut with the body on and it’s also as far in as it will go so I had to cut a bit more than you normally would. Made a massive improvement with the added weight of the body and wheels. Got a mod19rc “no slop” steering link on the way for it also. Also picked up a 2nd to build a full Preformance rig with. It’s got humboldtefs battery tray, front bumper, and rear hinge to lower the body. Rc4wd competition wheels and mtrs. Tower pro mg90s servo. 100k diff fluid in the shocks. Also have another one of the no slop steering links on the way for it and mod19rcs cage for the stock body. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Was bored so made a quick spare tire carrier. Used a tire and wheel from my other build for pics but will have a matching spare soon enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
