Default Scx24 truggy build...

So since I’ve been seeing a few scx24’s around as of late. I’ve been itching to get one. So I ordered one through my local store. Can’t wait for it to come In. I’ve already got my 92’ Toyota pickup body and some rc4wd wagon bead locks with rc4wd scrambler tires. (Which to be honest might be way to big) I’ll have to update this post as I get stuff done but it may be a long build lol since I’ve never messed with something so small. We’ll see how this goes...

Sweet! I've got the same thing planned for my 2nd SCX24. Those tires are most likely gonna be tricky to fit unless you leave the body monster truck high. I'm having a hard enough time with the MT/R's that are only 2" (Scramblers are 2.4" I believe).

Here's what I've got mocked up so far, I cut the front fender a bit to allow the tire to clear at full compression and full lock.

I'm finding that everything below the front grill needs to go (or not be installed rather) for the sake of clearance.

I'm planning to design a rear cage to 3D print and likely hinge similar to stock.

Oh and dont get the millstone wheel wideners (that many folks are getting) for this one, it will just cause more issues with clearance as the tire will now take a wider arc when steering.

Hmmm I might have to get something smaller... yea the tires are about 2.4” I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make the axle width wider as I almost want a wroncho style look to it. I know the steering arch will come into play. I might just need to hack this to bits and see what stays...

I’d be happy with a little more. Kinda like my tundra truggy.

Still waiting on the truck to arrive so I can’t do any real work but I got some 3mm OD stainless tubing to try and it fits the size I need perfectly so I’ll have to order some more.

Finally my truck came in! Charged it up and played around a little bit. It’s pretty good out of the box. But I already know it can use a few tweaks. The throttle control is a little knotchy so to speak so I might have to see if that can be addressed. Now I suppose I can get to work on the actual build part. Soon

Looks like it’s going to be cool
Where did you find the old Toyota body?
I am going to order one next week. I am working out of town for the next few months and need a crawling fix. I have been looking into upgrades like the servo. Can’t seem to find the dimensions of the stock servo to find a metal gear one. Looks like that is a weak spot

Toyota body is a 1/20 scale model I found. Think it’s an AMT model...

Going to run over this morning and pick one up. Maybe I can find a body there too

Got a little mock up on the body done today. Installed the brass wideners left the stock tires on for now as the scramblers I bought are beyond way to big I think the width I was going for is perfect with the wideners though. I’m sure I’ll have to trim the cab up though to clear tires.

I have both the scx24, and the RC4WD Gelande II Black Rock for small scale crawlers and have to say after adding a bit of weight to the scx24 it's a much better crawler / trail rig then the RC4WD. Mind you the RC4WD Gelande II is an amazing little piece of scale machinery, it just needs a lot of work to be more function as something other then a shelf queen.

That’s looking nice. Picked mine up this morning it works pretty good straight out of the box. A few mods and it will work great.
Cant wait to see how yours turns out

I agree it’s not bad out of the box. I’m spoiled though with my super smooth running 1/10 trucks. This just feels knotchy. Small stuff will get changed but the main thing I wanted was the body.

Part of me me wants to just keep this thing stick and drive it

But that’s not me. I want to see how good I can make this work. First thing is servo upgrade. It works but it’s weak. And second I would like to find some micro rod ends so I can make my links

So I was playing around trying to get some more droop out of the front to get it as low as I could while waiting for my battery tray to print. So I came up with this. Just mounted the top of the shock to the rear of the esc tray. Definitely not super scale lol but it got me my droop. The rear I actually flipped the shock mounts and moved them forward. Also gave me some rear droop and articulation. I’ll have to see how this actually all works but for now I’ve at least got the ride height where I want it.

Tooled away a little bit on the cage work. Just trying to get an idea of where I want this to go for now. Pinching the rear and I think I might attempt to bob the back a bit as well. Should make departure angle better if I do without the bed hanging way off the back.

Wow I really like how the 1:20 looks on the scx24. I’m definitely going to look into the 1:20 models when I get mine. I’ve been I. The really jeep scene most of my life and I’m about to get into the world of RC crawlers. I think the scx24 is the best place to start. Definitely going to follow this build.
