Default SCX24 Shock upgrade ???

Just picked up an SCX 24 and it's a fun little rig. I'm wondering if anyone has found a better shock set up than comes with it...

Carisma Msa-1e oily shocks.

Hot racing micro shocks.

RC4WD 40mm shocks.

This is what I did though.

Stock up front with some o rings above the spring for more preload.

And losi micro shocks in the rear at an angle with a pen spring and still has some travel plus I get massive articulation. I’m just recycling parts around really. But I like how it drives.

It's a great little truck... super fun! a little dab of some thick grease on the stockers will slow them down a little, but I'd like to find a better option and wanted to see if anyone here had found one yet.

The shocks aren't bad compared to others at this scale. Moving weight up front removed a surprising amount of bounciness in my case. Next is stiffer rear springs and some O ring lube. I feel grease may be too much

I agree. Stock are nice. Add some weight or preload and they actually work great. They just don’t have much compression range/travel.

I found the losi micro shocks are awesome! They have the most compression range out of all the shocks I’ve tried. There just ugly. But man do you get articulation from the added compression range length.

The HR 43mm have the 2nd longest compression range imo. But they stick and are better suited for heavier micros imo. Such as the RC4WD mini. They loosen up over time but I found the spring choices they come with to be way too soft and the shaft sticks. Or way too hard.

Looking to try the carisma oil shocks for the mse1a on mine next.

Thanks for the tips.... I will try adding some weight up front first.

I found these. Not sure if they'll work or not but it seems others have put the stock Losi rear shocks on theirs. Haven't ordered them yet since I don't have my rig. I pick mine up tomorrow night. Might get them ordered after I run it for a while.

I picked up a set of the Carisma oil shocks and they are quite a bit longer and I need to come up with a way to mount/angle them, the rod end and balls are much bigger than stock so I need to remedy that as well.

As others mentioned adding a bit of weight (to the wheels IMO) helps to reduce the bounciness.

I dont suggest those. Not worth the money. What HumboldtEF is talking about is what the grandmaster SPOO76 has recommended.

Hey your back! How long are those shocks? I like mine longer than most. I mean... you know what I meant!

I'll try to post up some dimensions when I get off work. Not sure it will be worth all the effort its gonna take and its hard to feel the damping with such a small shock but I'm holding off on judgement until I see how they do on the rig.

Okay so stock shocks look to be 32mm eye to eye, and the carisma oil shocks look like 44mm and use 4.6mm balls using m2.5 screws

for such small shocks they seem to be decent quality though not completely smooth even with some green slime

SCORE! Thank you VERY MUCH. I am SO ordering those now. That's exactly the length I like.

They look SO much nicer than the HR43mm micro shocks too.

Thank you!!!

PS: them springs do look thick!

I got as far as modeling up some adapters to be able to reuse the stock ball studs but I wasn't sure how to get the fronts mounted since they're a fair bit longer. I also felt like they dont really offer much actual damping when I play with them out of the truck. Basically on hold now.

Regarding the thick springs they do seem a bit on the stiff side so I dont think they will suit the SCX24 too well. I was however able to reuse the stock springs after dropping the preload adjuster down all the way so I think thats likely to help a ton.

Ok. I might still try to adapt the, somehow. Filling them is a nightmare.

Indeed these are a pain to fill. I used a needle to try to guide the oil in. I pushed the piston up all the way, dabbed a drop of oil on it (more than in it) then pulled the piston down to draw the oil in. The needle also was useful in popping the air bubble thats created every time you add oil.

I could share the files I have so far for the Carisma oil shock adapters but they really weren't perfected and I ended up marring the ball sockets quiet badly when test fitting a bunch of different versions.
