The stock servo is probably too week to turn the wheels with wideners. The servo saver doesnt help that either. I bought this servo off amazon and its 27oz or torque. IT will MOVE the truck if hung on something. This servo WILL turn the wheels with wideners and wheel weights.

I did that same servo. Fits pretty well. I want to upgrade the steering links somehow. They flex way too much. I am thinking 4-40 rod maybe.

Did you put some O rings around your ball ends on the cross bar? Doing so removes a TON of slop. I put some on all ball ends up front and I have zero slop now. Even with the much stronger servo, I dont seem to be bending my cross bar at full lock or anything.

Look closely, you will see black o rings around my ball ends. You an see one showing on the bottom left. Huge difference!

I did do the O ring additions. Just seemed to me that the bar itself is flexy while playing with it.

It flexs a small amount. But only if your stuck IMO. I look at that as my "servo saver" flexing! lol. Its gotta give somewhere.

I tried the O-ring mod and I guess mine were just a bit too thick, they added resistance due to being so tight. I even tried to oil them up and it was still sticking.

I've also upgraded my servo but left the stock links alone. I'm afraid if the linkage and servo are both strong something has to give, so yeah its a sort of servo saver. I'd wager with solid links whats likely to give then is the C-hub mounting holes and considering the size of the fasteners (anyone know what size?) I really dont want to stress them. Plus to fix this I think you'd end up needing a new front axle as they dont sell the little bits by themselves.

@Alexg89 you could try removing the servo saver although I have no clue what the tooth count is, I know its smaller than most. I suppose worst case scenario you could try to glue the servo saver together so its solid.

I may have to give that a try also!

The only flex on my crawlers better be coming from the suspension not the steering setup. Servo savers are for go fast & basher rigs.
How many people you see running servo savers & flexible linkage on a 1/10 crawler?
Make it as solid as you can & keep your end points adjusted as not to put stress on your knuckles.

If it were a 1/10 scale I would absolutely agree but I just dont trust these tiny servos to be able to handle that. Servo savers are gone but I'm keeping the flimsy links.

The link you made looks nice

I like what you did there. I thought about making my own links. But the c hub or whatever you call it that you put your long bolt through looks so thin.

I worried the leverage from that long bolt would fatigue the c hub and stopped. Its my thinking they put the servo link to the offset to lesson the strain on the thin c hub. I dont know. But Im just saying I was going to do that too and stopped once I saw how thin the C hub is.

Sounds like yours works just fine? If so i might revisit that.

Have you thought about the brass knuckles? That would alleviate your concerns for sure! They seem pretty beefy!

I just ordered new steering links from shapeways. They look to get rid if that play. A bit spendy @ $10, but I don't have a 3d printer or the knowledge to do it myself

Hey, at least you get two sets for that price. But seriously, I think you will be happy with the parts. A lot of folks have been using them.

Yes. It sticks out a couple mm though. You’ll need longer screws I believe. And you might have to trim bumper back side if using for the front.

Look close. You’ll see how far forward the mount tabs on the servo are from the servo mount on the axle.
