Default Was bit by the Micro Bug... SCX24 Added to the Stable and its adventures

So, after a few build threads were read through and some questions answered by a few members, I have decided to add an SCX24 to the Stable.

My local hobby shop has shut it's doors (temporarily) for the Coronavirus, but is still taking orders and supplying support via Facebook and email. Not being a Facebook guy, I sent Ryan an email asking what they had in stock. He replied that they had a few SCX24's (Yellow Jeep, Green/White C10, Red Deadbolt and a Green Deadbolt), a couple RC4WD 1/18 Gelande 2's, and the Carisma MSA-1E 1/24 (Subaru Brat). Given the price point and reviews on each, I chose the SCX24 Yellow Jeep. I am not a GM fan so the C10 was out and my son has a 1/10 Deadbolt, so it was out

On orders over $50, the hobby shop is paying the freight, pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

More to follow, as the situation progresses

NOPE, not long at all

I figured for the price, it should be fun, even in stock form for a little while.
But probably not for long...

The battery is now charging.

I honestly did not put 2&2 together and come up with 1/24 scale...

Nice! I thought I was over micros, but I've been wanting the C10 version lately. I'm holding off because I'm trying to drastically trying to reduce the size of my RC fleet. Besides, my Losi MiRC has been sitting here untouched for years.

Just think of it this way, you're not really increasing the SIZE of your fleet that much...

I've got a Ford body on the way for this one

As others have said, it is a little tippy, but loads of fun. My son has been running it around a cluttered basement, i.e. "crawler course"... and having a blast.

One thing of note is that the steering servo definitely tends to get twitchy and just starts shaking the front tires. Doesn't do it often, just something he noticed.

The shocks are a little springy, but not too bad and the tires seem to do a decent job of gripping most surfaces. Overall, pretty dang pleased.

Don’t judge my mess...

Both of mine had their servos go out after a few weeks, but thats a bit too soon to be acting up.

Agreed, I’ll contact the hobby shop, or Axial.

He took it outside and had a blast crawling through the yard and the snow berm next to the road. The snow has a decent crust on it the last couple days, so pretty good for the crawlers.

We bought a green and red deadbolt SCX24 for something to do with this social distancing thing (I’ve been out of RC for 20 years). My wife’s steering servo started with the seizures on the 3rd use. Ended up ordering two EMAX servos from bangood as i read the ES08MA is the way to go. Since every shipping container from china seems to have n95 masks on it the wait for the servos is almost a month.

Where in the world did you find an SCX24? I would like to buy a Deadbolt but can't find them anywhere.

Help!

Our local hobby shop had a few on the shelf, just lucky and that's why I scooped it up immediately.

On a good note - I spoke to my local hobby shop guy, ok, well emailed back and forth a bit. He let me know my servo issue should be covered by warranty and to contact Axial.

I sent an email to Horizon late this morning describing the issue and I already received a response. They will be sending me a replacement servo as soon as they get them in stock. Not to say it won'y fail again, but there is always the e-maxx servo as a replacement. Kudos to Horizon for taking care of the problem, no questions asked

Thanks a bunch. They had 1 Deadbolt left so I ordered it. I hope it will get here in a reasonable time. I'm in Tennessee.
If you guys want to see a cool indoor course, chack out the RcSaylors on Youtube. They have a really cool video on their play room SCX24 Crawler course.

I picked up some scrap tire/wheel balancing weights from my local tire store (for free) and glued them onto the axles for some better balancing.
They are soft so you can bend them easily. I bent 2 of then and put them on the drive line side of the diff. They worked out great! The 1/4 oz stick on soft lead weights worked out great. Shoe Goo worked well as the adhesive, it dries fast, but it helped to clean the axle first with some alcohol to remove the manufacturing oils.

Cheap and easy, good plan

I got two Ovonic Air 450mAh 50c 2S lipos on Amazon for $14.99 + shipping. They've done real good in the scx24 so far.

I ordered some parts a while back and some of them started trickling in

The HBX wheels and tires are here, so of purse I had to install them. Immediately, it’s a no go with the Jeep body due to rubbing.

I flipped the rear bumper mount and raised the front body mount, looks like it’ll clear now. Still working on a way to fasten the body at the rear.
