Default What's breaking on your SCX24's?

Curious what you all are finding out before/after modding your micro rigs before I drop the cash to join the party.

I already know the chargers out of the box have been sketchy, has that changed since the C10's? I'm really curious to see if more people are breaking drivetrains with wheel weight rather than body/axle weight.

So far nothing..., I’ve upgraded to a 800mah and the cheap rc4wd USB charger. I don’t put too much hard bashing with it, but have added weight
Really would like the steering link upgrade but think the cheap flimsy one is keeping the servo from over working.

On the 4 that I have, I’ve had 2 motors die. But they were on my kids trucks that get serious miles out on them. They drive them around the house, yard everywhere! No hard parts have broken yet.

I just picked one up today. Snagged the rc4wd wheels and tires for it as well. I can already say that front server has to go. I’ll do more battery and a servo ASAP

Charger and servo both dont last very long for most. The pin on the end of the front driveshafts pops loose but can be fixed with some CA.

I’ve had both the charger and servo die. The charger died after the second charging. The servo died after three gentle indoor runs.

Everything else has held up good so far.

What is the go to servo for these when they die. I’m not used to having a crawler with such a weak servo in it. I’d like to upgrade it to get more torque but without breaking the bank.

I got a couple from here, and I didn't have to wait 4 weeks. Just type micro servo in search and it should pop right up!

I found the servo on Amazon and the HR mount on eBay.

Thanks guys! just jumped over on amain and picked up the digital servo. I’ve seen these fit in the stock holder, does it benefit having the HR aluminum servo mount.

Welcome!

I bought the HR mount so the servo mounted solid and it looks good. And I didn’t feel like modifying the stock plastic mount. This servo is a tad bit bigger.

The EMAX does fit a bit tight in the stock plastic mount. And I used different mounting screws. A more accommodating bracket like the HR that B-MOW71 posted would've been better. Reason I bought the EMAX was b/c it was cheap and there were enough other people that had put them in the scx24 with good feedback. No issues with mine fwfw.

Wow, I wasn't expecting the servos to be the weak point on stock rigs.

Here is a look at the servo and HR mount installed. This servo has been great so far. It is a major improvement over the stock servo.

I still have to modify the front bumper bracket. This servo is wider and rubs the bracket a tiny bit causing the suspension to get hung up when compressed.

I ended up buying the 4-pack of these servos on Amazon for $20. The single servo by itself was around $10 bucks. Now I have a lifetime supply!

Nothing broken yet and I've not been easy on it.

Have two of these rigs for my 4 y/o twins.

Have had one transmitter ruined because the supplied AAs leaked acid after about 2 months.

One charger stopped working after about 4 charges.

One transmission stripped (but I blame that on my daughter's very heavy and unrelenting trigger finger )

Spare parts are just now coming back in (or I am just noticing that they are) so I am in process of trying to repair both rigs.

My quick summary, digital had better holding torque at the cost of higher battery draw. For crawling, analog probably better. You don't need these servos fighting against windspeed to hold position.
