Default RocHobby 1/18 Katana CR-18 based HardBody!!

RocHobby 1/18 Katana
Looks to be based on the HobbyPlus CR-18 land cruiser, but with a really nice hard body, opening hood & and the longer slower 050 sized 100T motor from the FMS Atlas 6x6 instead of the 050 88t from the CR-18.
It even has the CR-18 updated front suspension with 3 link and Panhard.

The Roc Hobby 1/18 Katana showed up yesterday but I didn't have time to take pictures and post.
It's mostly a CR-18 with a very nicely detailed hard body, different springs, 1.0 Goodyear MTRs that are very similar to the RC4WD versions, however with deeper lugs, more sipping, but not as sticky.
Just as soft as the other RTR tires like Barrage/RGT/FTX/HobbyPlus.
It has the longer 050 sized motor from the Barrage/RGT rather than the 030 used on the CR-18 and SCX-24.
And yes just like the HobbyPlus CR-24 and CR-18 the wheels are bead lock

The packaging is excellent, just like the FMS/RocHobby Atlas 6x6 it's a very dense textured foam and actually snaps shut tightly. All RC should be shipped like this as it's great for shipping and traveling.

The hood pops open, it's a bit tight to open but that's a good thing, It's tight and held shut with neodymium magnets (rare earth) inside you'll see typical 2-in-one electronics and a 3 wire servo and a 2s 600mah that looks similar to the HobbyPlus CR-18 600mah.

The details on this body are great, I'd say the nicest detailed 1/24-1/18 body so far. It has more and nicer details than RC4WD, and with a more detailed interior (look at that dash!) and lower and more scale floor. The Kyosho bodies may have similar body details, but I've never seen one in person and they don't have interiors.

The transmitter Is is pretty standard for micro RCs now days. It's the Turbo Racing transmitter first used by HobbyPlus. I still haven't even run power to it yet started unboxing taking pictures and then tearing it apart to get to the interior.

So while the CR-18 uses wheels slightly smaller than 1.0" just like the ECX Barrage/RGT Adventurer FTX Outback, the Katana surprisingly uses true 1.0" bead lock wheels. While it's good because it gives you plenty of tire options, and a nice inexpensive bead lock wheel for everyone else, I would prefered to have see this tire for the smaller wheel since we already have the RC4WD in this size.
On the left you can see the larger kitana bead lock ring underneath the HobbyPlus brass weight. In the middle you see the HobbyPlus wheel lip doesn't reach the Kitana beads. Below that is the Kitana rear 1.0" ring on a CR-18 tire. The far right is an RC4WD 1.0 Goodyear MTR for comparison. Below is the Kitana bead lock mounted in an RC4WD 1.0" Mickey Thompson Baja claw

Some comparison photos of the RocHobby Katana compared to the RocHobby/FMS Atlas 6x6 and an SCX24 Chevy

I have actually. I forgot to update.
So the tires are great, especially for the price compared to RC4WD. They aren't as sticky as the RC4WD version, but without foams they are a little softer than the RC4WD with foams. RC4WD without foams doesn't have any sidewall support.

Low speed throttle control is pretty typical for a CR-18/CR-24 since it has the same transmission. The 050 instead of the helps, but it's also heavier having a hardbody, Interior, & floor. A Barrage/RGT 64t spur gear and 9t pinion is my go to for this transmission and should help a bit along with a better ESC. I haven't torn the light wiring harness apart but it looks like a regular auxiliary switch that will work with a standard receiver and ESC.
As far as the handling, it' does surprisingly well for a hardbody. It has much stiffer springs than the CR-18 to help with the hard body weight. It feels more planted than I would have expected and definitely handles better than my mini galande and gets over obstacles better than the panda hobby tetra. Wheel weight may help, but so far I don't find it a priority. I'm honestly pleasantly surprised with this one. The CR-18 is definitely my favorite scale 1/18 platform, and it's nice to see detailed lexan for weight savings, a hard body for scale looks, and the Atlas 6x6 version for something different. Hopefully we will see more hard bodies released for this platform

So, I was waiting for the RC4WD Scramblers to come back in stock to get for my CR-24. Looks like I'll need to get a difference set of wheels too since these don';t fit? I have the chrome wheels that come on the Harvester.

Correct, Hobby Plus CR24/CR18,ECX Barrage/RGT Adventurer /FTX Outback wheels are all the same size as each other but smaller than the standard 1.0" wheels

Hi,
check this new 1/18 out:
New EAAYRC Patrion 1/18 - RocHobby Katana "in cheap"?

Never heard of this company EAAYRC... the Patrion seems to be a Katana clone? (probably without opening hood, smaller but 2 batteries) for a much cheaper price.

Anyone give their Katana a complete tear down? Just curious if there's a reason if it's lacking grease in the trans or diffs from the factory. I've had some 1/10 RTR with out a drop of grease.

As we all know, the Katana is LOUD (Mainly from the ESX). Wondering if some extra grease somewhere could quiet it down a bit.

New color and the Katana electronics with the Patriot suspension, chassis, axles and transmission. Just released a few weeks ago, but There's some videos about it in various places.

So far I've only seen it on AsiaTees and AliExpress, I'm sure it's available other places.
Supposedly someone translated the Chinese website and they claim metal drive shafts and gears but I don't necessarily believe that until I see it
