On this off-topic low/high gear debate, I’ve always used short/tall to describe gear ratios.

On topic, this transfer case setup is something I am looking to attempt with my cr18, but half of these parts are out of stock at asiatees. It also makes it harder that I don’t have a 3D printer or software. Or even a capable computer.

I wanted the xfer case so bad, I just bought the RGT adventurer and stripped it. You could make the forward motor mount easily out of some aluminum plate.

Understand that the output shaft of the factory motor/gearbox is 3mm but the input shaft of the xfer case is 2mm, so if you want to use the dogbone shaft from motor/gearbox to xfer case, you will need to drill out one of the drive cups. Not a big deal, just something to think about.

My son has an RGT, but I’m not about to strip his down for my truck. Plus I still have a broken gear in my trans. I am also curious if I can’t just use parts from the Adventurer V1 transmission to make the transfer case 3mm throughout, even if I have to drill extra holes in the case. But that will have to wait until my things are in order.

I put a set of the new RC4WD Mud Slingers on the Atlas. I had to drill a new hole and move the rear suspension back one hole but even with that, the mid and rear tires barely clear each other.

My printer isnt good enough to do gears. That would be awesome though....

You can use the 64t Spur gear from an ECX Barrage/RGT Adventurer/FTX Outback/Element Enduro24. They are available online for between$2 and $5. you'll also want the 9t pinion not only for more gear reduction, but the smaller pinion will help make room for the larger spur. You'll still have to slot the motor mount holes downward so the motor is resting on the skid plate. You won't be able to use the stock spur gear cover with the larger spur gear, but that's not really a problem.
I've been doing this since the CR-24 and it works just as well on the CR-18, ATLAS, and Katana. Pair that with a better ESC and there should be a nice improvement in torque and low speed throttle control.

this servo reversed the controls, is there an easay way to reverse the way it turns from the cotroller? (right turns left, left turns right.)

I think there is a Reverse button on the controller, have you tried that?

I did try it but it doesnt do anything noticeable, long beep after one press didnt do anything. short beep after second press and still didnt notice anything changed.

tried plugging it in different ways, didnt work any way except the way the first one was plugged in. except its reversed directions.

Ok I have found the ultimate micro crawler gearbox setup. I used the stock Atlas gearbox and mated it to a divorced transfer case from an RGT Adventurer. The RGT transfer case is ~2.5:1 ratio so it basically cuts my final ratio in half. This is the perfect combination of low voltage torque and wheel speed IMO, and works excellent on the Atlas 6x6 and should work on any micro crawler.

To do it, I cut away some of the radio platform above the front axle to make room for the low platform I printed. The output shaft and drive dog cups from the RGT are 2mm instead of the 3mm like on most gearboxes. Instead of drilling out one of the cups to 3mm, I just modeled one with a 3mm hole with a D flat then printed it. Also printed a new radio platform that sits between the motor and the battery tray.

Ill try to get some video of the crawl speed.

Nice design. Can you share the .stl files? Also, what wheels are those and did they bolt right up or did you have to mod?

Thanks. its actually a ridiculously simple design LOL.

The wheels are RC4WD and I did have to move the rear axle back for tire clearance, and move the shocks to the lowest holes. I also turned the hub nuts upsidown to get the wrench on them.
