Upgrades to deadbolt
 

Which would be better for adding weight to Scx24?
Diff covers from and rear and the brass knuckles vs wheel weights?
The wheels weights seem to weigh the wheels down and make the motor work harder?

Total noob just started crawling with my ten year old son.

Doing wheel wheel weights will add rotating mass to the wheels so motor would work harder to turn them, like adding 22" rims on a geo metro 1:1. When you take off the car acts like it's in mud. If you want to choose one or the other I would add to the knuckles. Personally. Most people so both.

Diff covers and wheel wieghts. I'm thinking of adding 13g front cover and a 9g rear, my deadbolt weighs about 3x stockdue to all my budy mods, I also wound thick solder around inside of my wheels, it's a little weight but every bit helps keep her planted,

I don't know anything of about the 13g weights but I feel like you lose some ground clearance with that. On my deadbolt I have 9 gram covers front and back and millstone spacer/weights. I'm have the knuckles still have stock wheels and tires but I will be changing that up when my new tires show up lol. With the extra weight of the knuckles I don't thing you really need to also have an extra 4 grams at the expense of ground clearance.

If you don't run skidplate I don't think your going to lose that much ground clearance, but it is a very sharp angle compared to the 9ghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...a54a781b7a.jpg

Although Treal hobby makes beutiful brass 10g a piece for knuckes front and 10g a piece for real axle balance wheights

I didn't add wheel weights per say to mine, used RC4WD steel wheels which with tires weigh about 22g ea. This does add turning mass just like wheel weights. If I decide that I need more weight I'll probably add brass knuckles. I don't want to get my Deadbolt or C10 crawling so well that it isn't a challenge on my courses, it then becomes boring, at least to me anyway.

RC4WD stamped steel wheels depending on tires are within about 2g of weighted stock wheels with the HR weights. That can go up or down depending on the tire you use as their sizes differ slightly. I ordered some Treal weights to use on my C10 to test them out. I have HR on my deadbolt so I'm to see if one snags more or less than the other.

I am debating the 9g dif covers front and rear. I might wait on the knuckles. I would be really interested in seeing how the weight in the center front and read helps the Deadbolt. My problem is with running 2 Deadbolts and wanting to keep my Deadbolt and my son's similar/ same level of driving prowess. It gets expensive quick.

2xDeadbolt, with 2 identical models I think you are in a great position to try out any upgrade you are considering, and be able to compare the difference in performance directly.
Even if you get dif covers for both, only put them on one.
Then go out and run with your son. Trade transmitters back and forth and see if you notice a difference.

I have 2 SCX24's that I purchased for my wife's Christmas present (She gets a Jeep and I get a Chevy).
I am still researching what I want to get, but it will be done one model at a time so we can compare and contrast.
Yes, I am suggesting that you try the same to further my own research :ror:

My upgrade list so far, subject to change:

• Hot Racing brass knuckles
• Million Weight fluid for the shocks - mount the shocks upside down
• rc4wd rok lox tires
• rc4wd beadlocks

I am looking at motors but have not made up my mind yet. I am early in the research process.

The best upgrades I've done so far is the 050 Barrage motor and Emax steering servo. The added power in both areas really helps with throttle modulation and steering control. It makes the rig capable of handling the extra weight and larger tires that may be added down the road.

Edit: I have no idea why I thought you asked for general upgrades, haha. Regarding weight, I would add non-rotating weight before wheel weight for sure. That said, I added wheel weight before non-rotating weight since I could do it for 'free'.

I am hoping that we get some upgrades for Christmas. They we can do some testing. Plus building a course in the backyard.

Looks like you have a good start to a nice course. Will be interested to see what you you come up with. My Deadbolt is gently modded, Emax servo with 3D printed mount, RC4WD steel wheels with RC4WD Scramblers. Recently added the Barrage motor. Pretty happy with it.

Moved a lot of sand gravel last weekend. I might have maxed out the trailer and mower I used to get it to the back yard. But it works.i feel like a kid playing in the dirt. Haha

Friend gave me a bunch of rocks to add to the course. I might have to mix some stuff in with the sand to keep if from running away in the rain.

Also very concerned because they are going to "upgrade" wiring infrastructure. I hope they don't have to dig up my course or mess up my back yard. [emoji15]
