2s 1200mAh battery work in SCX24?

I have a bunch of Floureon 2s 25c 1200mAh batteries from some rc cars I had for my kids. We ordered 4 of the SCX24 trucks to have for my boys and wife and I for Christmas, and while I know this battery is a bit big compared to stock, it would be nice to be able to utilize them. I would need a JST to JST PH 2.0 adapter plug, but that is doable.


What do you guys think, would these batteries work on the SCX24?

Sure it will work.
Same voltage. Electrically, the motor will not see any difference.
58 grams vs 23.3 grams for the stock battery. The motor will see a bit of extra load, but plenty of people add that much weight and more for better performance.

One area where you will see some less desirable effects is in Center of Gravity (CG) location.
The weight that others add for better performance is as low as possible. Brass differential covers, brass steering knuckles. Brass or stamped steel wheel parts.
All of these add weight as low as possible moving the CG lower. This makes the truck less likely to tip over while climbing.
Your battery is going to sit high, raising the CG, making the truck more likely to tip over while climbing.

Is the slight loss of stability worth the run time increase? Only you know the answer to that. If your group is mostly zipping around the floor, you might not even notice.
If you make the adapters and suddenly realize that they tip all the time, you can always simply plug back in the stock batteries.



I think you should experiment. Put the big batteries in 2 of them and the stocks in the other 2. Then let them rip. Do you notice any difference? I mean, they ALL are going to roll over from time to time. But do you see any difference caused by the hi CG?

I doubt it would fit under the Deadbolt body in the stock battery location, 12mm is about the max height that will fit that one. Should be no problem with the Jeep, don’t know about the other versions.

You can fit it, esc should have no problem powering up the crawler. I am able to fit and use a 2S 1500 pack aswell as a 3S in my deadbolt chassis.

Hey, thanks guys for your input. I appreciate it. I will try them out. I am building some indoor crawler courses for these mini's on pallets in my big shop. My plan is to have around four pallets that can be moved around with a pallet jack to give many possible variations.

I will try both batteries on simular lines and see how they work.

As far as getting an adapter, does the scx24 use a JST PH, or JST PH 2.0, and what is the difference?

Don't see an answer to your JST question and maybe you found it in another post on here. The SCX24 uses a JST-PH2.0 connector. The 2.0 indicates the distance between the pins, 2mm. The Letters PH indicate the type of connector. As you've noted the JST-XH is a different connector than the PH.

Can't seem to find the info right now but I seem to remember PH-1.5 and PH-1.0 when I was looking for connectors for something else. As above, the PH-1.5 has a 1.5mm pin spacing and the PH-1.0 has a 1.0mm pin spacing. When looking at pictures they all look pretty much the same, the difference in size is only obvious when you see the different sizes side by side.

Updates?....did the batteries fit in some sort of way? I have no idea what runtime is on the stock 350mAh...but it is a lot. A battery with 1200mAh would probably be an hour at least of runtime.
