| SCX24 stretched springs?
Ok, so I saw a thing ealier where on the video they had recommended taking the stock springs and stretching about double the size of the shock lengths. So i took mine off, filled up the tops with some grease, and stretched the springs. Now I feel like they are stretched too far, and the flex isnt as good, as I think I have made them too stiff now for the weight of the SCX24 jeep. Is there a way to go back to destretch to give some cush back and flex? |

You'll probably need to replace your springs, you've permanently deformed them and increased the spring rate on them by doing that. Sorry to hear this happened but whoever told you that should be boxed about the ears. |

I took them, and tightened them down on a bolt to about the size i wanted, and then heated them up really good with a lighter. They stayed at this length then, and all seems good now. Just some FYI in case anyone else needs to do something similar. | |

| Re: SCX24 stretched springs? I thought of cutting them, but i figured making them shorter would maybe make them even stiff. It did cross my mind, but I wanted to try the heat thing first. Luckily it worked. Not the end of the world, as I am sure I will swap out the stock for something else, but for now, I am ok again.

Springs are a heat treated metal. Thats how they keep stretching over their life time. You've stretched a spring, i think youve made it harder in metallurgical terms. You will not be able to shrink it back, nothing will get it back, aside from opening your wallet and purchasing replacements. When experimenting, be sure you can go back to the set up you had before you started tinkering. Just a new guy and his 2 cents. |

Stretching the springs changes the helix angle, which will increase the spring rate. Lengthening the spring will cause more preload when installed (more restoring force for a given coilovers compression) which will increase ride height. Working the metal will not change its stiffness. If you do not like the ride height or spring rate, recommend you try moving the upper mounting points to angle the shocks. This will reduce your effective spring rate. |
