Prerunner style SCX24?

I have an SCX24 and it's my first RC car in decades. I've recently been really into the whole prerunner/trophy truck scene (in the real world) and was wondering if I can mod my SCX24 to be more of a prerunner style? Like wider stance and maybe more travel? Or dare I say, 2WD conversion?

Or is this not a good platform for that? What's better in the same small 1/24 scale?

An Associated SC28 maybe? It's a shortcourse style truck.

IMO the only other 1:24 scale trucks that are hobby grade (other than these Axials) is the Kyosho Mini Z's. The have a wide selection...only drawback IMO is they are $200 each and run on 4 AAA batteries...no lipo.

If you look around you might find hex extenders that set the wheels out further...I think I've seen them on places like eBay.

As far as travel, these little buggers have a lot...just raise the body post/mounts a little to allow for the extra clearance. The tires hit the fender arches as it is.

You could 3d print (If you have one) some wheel extenders on thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4332968 Then, you could 3d print or buy a model kit body. If you opt for the model kit, then you could design and 3d print fender flares to make it look trophy truck like. Post pics if you do!
