Seems like a reasonable price. If it is true 1/18th scale then it should only be a little larger than an SCX24, as the SCX is larger than true 1/24th scale.

Size is just slightly bigger than SCX24.
Wheelbase: 6.1" / 155mm (SCX24 is 5.2" / 132mm, and 6.1 / 155mm for the gladiator)
Track width: 4.9" / 124mm (SCX24 is 3.9" / 99mm)
Height: Bronco 4.6" / 117mm and Defender 5.3" / 135mm (SCX24 is from 3.6" / 91mm to 4.4" / 112mm)

4 link front and rear (betting it s an axle mounted servo then)

The amount of accessories looks pretty decent right off the bat.
4 different springs available and spring preload spacers available for tuning.
Low range and "speed" transmission options (Stock transmission will be between the speed and low range options, so 3 transmission options total!)
From the pictures it looks like the stock transmission and axles have bushings instead of bearings. But of course they sell a $40 bearing set, shocker...
Ring and pinion axles (2:1 ratio)

Edit: updated/corrected transmission options

Looking at the pic, it appears to be a chassis-mounted steering seervo, which is a good thing. But I, too, think it looks closer to the size of a 1/24th scale. If you watched the YouTube rollour video, the Defender fits in the roof rack of the TRX4 Defender. Neither of my 1/18th trucks (Losi MRC and Vaterra Slick Rock) are small enough to fit there. But my SCX24s would so I'm curious how they're classifying it as a 1/18th.

Still, though....pretty cool little truck and finally a small scale from Traxxas. Better late than never I suppose.

With a 155mm wheelbase, that puts it in the same range as the FMS/Eazy RC and Hobby Plus 1:18 scale trucks.

That's because the supposed 1/24 are not 1/24, they are actually closer to 1/18. Just like this 1/10 scale stuff much of the time unless you get into rc4wd hard bodies and similar, are actually closer to or are 1/8.

Main stream rc companies have a really hard time with scale for some dumb reason. Really not hard to figure out, 1:1 vehicle dimensions divided by the scale, so 10, 18, 24. I have true to scale printed 1/10 and 1/24 bodies. They are substantially smaller than rc 1/10 and 1/24 bodies.

“Scale” can be tricky for a number of reasons…

RC companies need to sell product and make money. To sell product they have to appeal to the most amount of customers possible.

A true scale 1/10 version of most modern trucks/SUV’s would come with 3.1”-3.3” tires, which is not an accepted standard 1/10 crawler tire size.

I’ve also seen losi comment on the hammer rey that 1/10 is more of an electronics classification, which makes sense to me.

FWIW In this case a 1:1 bronco has a 116” wb, and the trx4m ends up being close to 1/19 at 6.1”.
At the same time, the 2.2” tires scale out to a 41.8” at 1/19 or 39” at 1/18.

The scx24 bronco ends up closer to 1/22 at 5.2” wb.

I certainly wouldn’t want to see this on a true to scale 1.8” tire… and that’s assuming you’re basing it off a 1:1 trim level with 35’s stock.

Short story long, scale is tricky to make things look good while still appealing to the masses, and not having to make an entirely new chassis, axle width, and tire size for every body change.

Just a heads up, your math is a good bit off. Scx24 bronco is 1/20 going on wheel base for example.

A 1.9 wheel is a 19" wheel in 1:1 on 1/10 scale. 1/10 scale numbers are easy to figure out, move the decimal 1 point to the left. 2.2 is 22 and so on.

Offroad in 1/10 to be appealing? Element hit that nail almost dead center on the head with the Knightrunner. Wheelbase is exactly 1/10 of a 1:1 Tacoma (I have a 1:1 and a knightrunner). Proportions from there are a bit off, mainly width. Width goes almost 1/8 scale. The stock tires are 3.85 which means 38.5 in 1:1, very realistic numbers for a heavily modified offroad tacoma. Straight axle swapped and 4 link guys have done are on 40s, so a 4" tire in 1/10. Class 1 tires fall in pretty close and not an unrealistic mod for 1:1 to have 42" tires (class 1 4.19" tire)

Rc has never had it right but people couldn't handle the switch to be accurately scale labeled, get too confusing.

I don’t claim to be good at math, but if you multiply 5.2 by 22.327 to be exact, you get 116.1”… which is the 1:1 bronco 4 door wb. Would that not be 1/22:1?

Either way, my only point was manufacturers typically have logical reasons to not make things exact 1/10 scale replicas.

And to not derail this thread too much, I’m pretty excited about this release and most likely will pick one up… in November

Ok my bad apologies, when I looked up the bronco wheel base it gave me 105. I'm betting that's the sport wheel base not the full size.

Out of the box with oil filled shocks.

Game changer right there.

After watching the Traxxas videos of this new release and seeing all of the optional parts and accessories that will be available, I'm excited now to pick up one of these when there become available in November.

Looks like Traxxas did their homework and is offering a well thought out mini rig!

If this is anything at all like the TRX4 I just bought I'm excited to see how this little truck performs. May have to pick one up for my daughter because she's been wanting to drive my son's TRX4 '21 Bronco and he's not comfortable with that. Guess for now I'll give her my lightly modded SCX24 Deadbolt. But definitely interested in this truck!

these look great and very scale like... love the fact that they sit on straight axles ... i love my trx4 as it was what brought me to crawling so this little guy (defender) will likely make it home on the release date.

Well great, I was about to pull the trigger on a SCX24 Bronco to get back into this hobby and now I don't know. Do I wait 2 months for this or just go with the SCX? Hmm, decisions...

Buy both. I have a sxc24, both my boys have element 24s and I just put one of these with defender body on order.

Do you get everything in the first delivery package for preordering? or do you have to pay extra? I was also thinking about preordering a blue Defender.
