Default FMS FCX24 Smasher and Power wagon same drivetrain?

Hi,

Anyone know if they have the exact same drivetrain or one have metal gears in some areas vs the other?

I was planning on getting the smasher and later on getting the wagon body but it seem they don’t sell the rear cage.

Also anyone tried fitting the Axial or Traxxas Bronco body? would they fit? Could someone post photos.

Thanks

I know the Smasher comes with the metal portal gears, not sure on any of the other questions.

They are both fun little rigs!!!
Although I do not have them in front of me at the moment.

Rear Cage

Kind of hijacking this a bit with a question related to the two models he mentioned. I like the idea of trying to turn the Traxxas into a little 1/18 monster truck, but it seems like the fms smasher comes with so many extras (bearings, portal axles, 2 speed transmission, etc…) is it even worth it to try to convert the Traxxas? I’d probably have to put a decent amount of money into it but I’ve always had good luck with Traxxas, even on weird projects I made. What do you guys think?

Fcx24 wheel base is about an inch shorter then the trx4m. With extended links it will fit trx4m body.

Max Smasher has open diffs. FCX24 is locked.

Thanks

So besides that they pretty much the same. Is hard to know for sure as they don’t show the portal photo of the wagon being metal like they do in the smasher.

Hmm that might be more complicated that it seem finding the right linkage and driveshaft.

The Smasher just comes with the metal portal gears and the FCX24 does not. The Smasher does not have any metal axle/portal housings in stock form.

Super easy, lots have done the stretch and it is well documented.
Extended trailing arms are available online, as well as it just uses an SCX24 driveshaft. Although I cannot remember which one, but I believe it was that Gladiator.

the butcher comes with metal portal gears now, it was only the first so many that didn't, even so fms sent everyone who got plastic portal gears metal ones for free

Anyone 100% confirm if the smasher has metal tranny gears or not? I seem to think a recent review said they did? Trying to find it...

Confirmed. The transmission does NOT have metal gears. Be warned. The facory metal gear set included a metal shift fork. All the aftermarket solutions require you to reuse your PLASTIC shift fork. So you want the factory gear set vs aftermaket for now.

I have the factory metal transmission gear set on the way , I have seen a few You Tube videos where there was fitment issues with the gears being to thick . I wrote FMS/FCX/FairRC about this fitment issue to see if it was resolved but they never responded . I have a dremel tool on hand just in case .

I installed the metal transmission gears along with the high speed motor , heat sink and battery kit from Fair RC . The trans gears seemed to install with no binding but after a few minutes of run time the power cuts out . The battery that came with the high speed kit is not supposed to do that , the stock battery will . I suspect something isn’t right . I fully charged the new battery before use . This high speed motor is fast , almost too fast .

I ordered the Treal set of gears , but a heads up , there may have been some changes in the shift gears . The FairRC clutch dog has 4 points of engagement , the Treal shift gear only has 3 . I’m sure I will be installing a hybrid transmission gear set .

I swapped in the Treal spur and drive gears , kept the FairRC shift gears . It runs much quieter, no gap in transmission case and run time went from 7 minutes to 25 .

FMS needs to look into their aftermarket fitment . Treal needs to update the shift gears .
