Default Tech / Chit Chat

On a serious note, I think we need a spot for everyone to be able to ask and get questions on set ups, tech and comp questions... eggsetera eggsetera. That way we can keep the rest of th Mn end cleaned up a bit

With that said, Hey Etype is 1/4" square stock too big to braze? or am I better off to weld on it????

As long as you have enough heat, you can braze 1/4 steel. Mapp gas might not be hot enough, oxy/acetylene would be the best. Also brazing thinner material to thicker material I think is much harder when brazing. But its been a few years since I have brazed, I prefer mig welding.

Here is a list of things that make the axial tranny better then a pede tranny.
  • Lower price
  • Smaller size
  • Wider gear mesh range
  • Aluminum motor mount
  • Mounts flush to the skid plate without modding the case
  • Fully enclosed case, the pede has a large opening under the diff.
  • Factory locked

Plus you can now get a bolt on 'dig' for the Axial tranny. Troy and I should have ours today I'm hoping.

This being the outright best reason I think. Which is why I think I will be going to this set up over the pede shortly

The way it is sounding, there sound be a good amount of rigs running dig this year....... should make for some seriously challenging courses!

I've always used Stampede shafts. They work great for me.

There is the R2Disconnect tranny from RC4WD which is an entire transmission, of VF(Visionary Fabrications) is taking preorders for their dig that bolts up to an Axial transmission. Other than those 2, the only other digs are home made. Search for dig and you'll find plenty of write ups.

I will probably buy a set, along with some soft rubicons. Figured its worth having a set of each tire around.....

I'll probably do claws and Badlands. I think the badlands might have too much grip for some of the spots, and bind up easy....

I plan on running both sets myself. Just to have a couple options readily available instead of kicking myself afterwards wishings I had the options.

I have three 8 cell 1400Mah packs that I use on comp rigs and scalers. And I recently picked up a 3c 1550Mah lipo pack for my gopher.

5 cells is not enough power, I would not run less then 7 cells personally, standard packs are 6 cells.
