Man I wasn't born until 81'! My first sled was one of the old yellow ski-doos' with the hood that looked like a big bubble. My next was a 75' Ski-doo TNT 440. Then I rode a 98' Arctic Cat ZRT for a while. I haven't been on a sled since I left for the army back in 01'. Its driving me nuts too since the trail is right in front of my yard.

The only thing that ever wore out on those were your tools. Never get to far from the road was the rule of thumb. |

I think you guys are just jealous you don't/didn't look that good at 35 years old. Storm, you need to buy a better grade of tools Dirtyal, at least age brought you some wisdom, you graduated from Ski-don't's to an Arctic Cat. Last edited by freetimecrawler; 01-04-2009 at 10:08 PM. |

All kidding aside, it is a nice find Troy The one question I do have is... How long did it take you to photoshop your avatar? In that picture, aren't the two people running suppost to have fire extinguishers and the sled smoking???:-P |

I've actually been looking for a Super Stinger in the Blue for many years. I've found many in Red, Gold and most of the other colors they made them in, but the Blue ones I've found have always been sitting under a tree and faded and shot. This One is in nice condition. Ryan, as far as the "ride" goes, my father was head of engineering for Scorpion from 1968-1981, I grew up on these things, I know the ride all to well, on all the old sleds However, this sled won't be a daily driver, it will be torn down and restored to 100% showroom condition for showing in a few vintage snowmobile shows, and ridden very little. I pretty much gave up on snowmobiling. I sold my Arctic Cat last year, I bought new in Fall of 98. I got tired of draging it up to the U.P. after too many snowless Winters. I also never was able to get used to the size of the new machines. I like the old riding style where you used some body english. My Cat ZL was a short track trail machine, while it was a rail on the trails, it sucked off the trail. The older sleds are 200lbs or more lighter, and I had much more fun on my old Scorpion Whips in the powder then my new Cat. (and you can actually get them unstuck by yourself) I'm going back to vintage riding, on a Once and while basis. As far as "working on it on the side of the trail" Hell these machines, if taken care of, are as dependable as the new Ones, a lot less to go wrong, if you have spark and gas, your good to go, not like the EFI on my Cat or the other computer controlled crap. In 36 years of riding snowmobiles, I can honestly say the only time I've ever been towed in was on my '99' Cat, and this was in 2000 after a chaincase failure, under warranty, but still. I've towed many sleds in of all brands through the years. They all breakdown Once and a while. This is my Once and-a-while weekend warrior. Still vintage though. 1980 Scorpion Sting 440 Last edited by freetimecrawler; 01-05-2009 at 05:28 PM. |

Cool find Troy!!! My Dad had a ski-doo 640 tnt 1 lunger it bout killed him if it backfired lolo... I had a 65 polaris 232 wasnt fast but was a great lil rig to run out to fishhouse or pull sleds around. It paid for itself in a sense. I lived in the narrows between to parts of a lake and would go get ppl unstuck in their cars. Lil red sled a shovel sand bag and boards with tarpaper on it. Blizzard of 83 I think it was some guy tried to cross the lake in a chevette with 5-6 on the ground to start and comeing down an inch an hour or more(idiot for trying). I had to shovel him out and drag his car 180 degrees and tow him 2 miles back to the shoreline he started from. He paid me 50$ not bad when ur 15 and just trying to help a guy out. Them older sleds arent fast but if taken care of will last along time and provide many yrs of enjoyment. I should dig that old sled out of mine see if she will fire up. Been many yrs since the rope was pulled... Again congrats for the find hope it does well for ya |

I think my neighbor has one of those 68 Mark III's. I have a buddy of mine that races one lungers in the ROLA 100. I have been looking at getting a vintage sled to run around on and take to the local vintage radar run. You should try looking on vintagesleds.com. There is quite a bit of info on that site.
