Default 2009 MNRCRC Howl Krawl

Time to clean the cobwebs off the scalers and charge up the batteries. It's time for the Howl Krawl. This scaler event will be our last official outing of 2009. Why not get 1 more run in before we pack it up for the winter?

Date: 11/1/09
Time: 11:00am
Place: Taylors Falls

Yes, you read correct... this year's Howl Krawl will be at Taylors. We will not be returning to the trail in Minneapolis. We've had too many close calls there. While it's a fun trail, safety is our #1 concern.

I have a couple Axial scale accessory parts trees that JP Customs tossed in with our raffle prizes. I've been thinking of how to give them out and I think I have a solution. I'd like to do 2 challenges at this year's event to mimic the 1:1 tough trucks; an obstacle course and a sled pull.
  • The obstacle course would be just like the ones Kwapi put on this year; numerous gates(10 or more), timed event, run till you have to touch your truck or hit a gate. Fastest or furthest wins. Winching will be allowed.
  • The pulling event would involve pulling a weight (I'm looking for a Tonka truck) up a slight incline. Fastest or furthest wins. Winching will not be allowed.

We know how unpredictable the weather can be this time of year. This event will go on regardless of rain, snow, wind, cold, etc. Last year was freakin' cold. Dress appropriately!

This will be a scaler only event. Even though we're at our comp location, this event is primarily planned for the scale freaks. No comp rigs will be allowed in either challenge.

Hope to see you there.

Don't worry, you'll have 5 months to put it back together.

What length of shocks are you looking for?

3 1/2 inch max., might have to find some wideners to ,looks like the 1.9's are rubbing the stearing hub a little.
might cut chassis and use a jeep body ,after Howl Krawl that is.

Thanks guys. I would give anything to not be in this situation. Surgery on Thursday. Being my right foot means no driving too. 4 to 6 weeks of boredom.

edit: Here is my inspiration for the truck pull. click

yep it's 16x8x10 1/2 , but the one I have has a plastic frame, don't know if we can hook to it real well. I do have a crane truck with metal frame( older tonka ) ,I could pull the crane off but we'd have to figure out a box or somesthing. That one we can drill a couple small holes it frame and hook it up.

Thanks, but I wouldn't want to tear apart an old classic like that.

F that. Tomm, you should build a scaler out of that cab! I can see it in those last pics.

I was thinking more along the lines of a custom off-road pull sled.
Pull sleds have the cab in the back, and weight in the front. pull the truck backwards and put a tray/bucket/box ,whatever in the front (back). maybe some custom paint and we're off.
like this, kind of...

How much weight would we need in it if we are pulling up hill. I have a lead inget thing that weighs like 10 lbs that I could screw right to the chassis, or under as a permanent weight.
