2011 Scaler Locations (Non-Duluth)

For right now, Let's vote on just the non-Duluth scaler events. I'll post a seperate thread for the Duluth events later.

The dates we're looking at are:
May 22nd
Oct 30th-(Howl Krawl)

Here are our location options for the non-duluth events:

Boom Site in Stillwater (pics) (map)
Banning State Park in Sandstone (pics) (map)
Interstate Park in Taylors Falls (pics?)

I left the poll multiple choice. Please only choose 1 location per event.

Can we get a water level at the banning state park for each of the dates? If the water levels are low I would want to go there. But if they are high again I would rather hit up the boomsite or taylors.

I have a opinion just not one about scalers I've been trying to build one for 3 1/2 years. It's almost vintage at this point. :ror:

If you want to drive up there the week before next time, by all means.

I still had a great time there even though the one section was flooded.

I would think by May 30th the spring melt waters would be gone, as long as we don't have a really wet spring.

But I agree with Pimp, it was a blast. The day want by so fast, then it was time to go.

This time I'll have my own rig, should be getting the winch in the next couple days.(shipped from RPP)

Guys, these are scalers not comp rigs. We don't care about water or mud, we make the FUN!

I can't wait for this snow to be GONE!

Keep your Wisconsin buds in mind for a summer event, I'm sure we could round up a few guys and head on up "thumbsup".

Flooding this spring will make years in the past look like nothing, this years flooding is expected to set new records. Fargo and Cedar Rapids should start filling sandbags now.

Banning has similar rock to Taylors but more spread out. More of a scale trail type of feel to it. There is a section there that was flooded out last year. With the flooding they are predicting this year, most likely it will be flooded in the spring. However, there was still plenty of area that was crawlable.

Stillwater is more riprap type of rock with more dirt trails than anything else. An ok amount of rock, but it's really dusty rock and pretty slick. Still a fun scaler spot though.

Both are adjacent to rivers. Depending on the water level some wet fun could be had at either location.

Between the two, I personally like Banning more, but it is further north. I included a link to some pictures of each of the sites in the first post next to either location(in case you guys missed it).

Ha, I just now noticed that the poll had the wrong dates in it. May 22nd is correct, the May 30th is not. May 30th is Monday, Memorial Day. Sorry for any confusion.

Nicklepimp 02-01-2011 02:21 PM

As far as Oct 30th (yes, that date is correct:ror:), both Ryan and I voted for Banning, but we both have expressed that we wouldn't care which of the 3 locations it was held at. With that in mind, we will go with the remaining majority of voters and choose Interstate Park for our Howl Krawl event.
