Exclamation Scaler Event #2 Banning State Park June 24th**************MOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!********

WE'RE MOVING THE LOCATION TO INTERSTATE PARK!!!

Same time, meet in the parking lot. Here's a MAP for those who haven't been there. I'll pm everyone that has posted that were thinking of going so that hopefully everyone gets the update.

************************************************** ***************************************
Where my scaler homies at, yo?

Sunday June 24th, we're heading to Banning State Park in Sandstone, MN. Click HERE for the map. We'll meet in the parking lot. Run what 'cha brung, just be ready to go by 11am.

Mike and I stopped by Banning last week on our way back from Duluth. The water level was below the rock wall, so the island was accessible. Unless the river goes up a foot, we should have full access. Even if it does, there's still plenty to crawl-so no worries!

I also learned that the southbound exit that we would normally take in Sandstone is closed. Because of this, guys from the north will have to take a slightly modified direction...

Directions from the South:
Take I35 north to Sandstone(just north of Hinkley). Take exit 191 for MN23 in Sandstone. Head east on MN23. When the road starts to curve left after about a half mile, take the slight right turn onto MN123. Then turn right on Government road. Take your first left-Eagle Drive. Follow Eagle Drive till it ends. Turn right onto the gravel road-Pine Ave. *Caution-Shortly after you pass the house on the left, the road will curve left, but look like it goes right. This right actually stops at some utility building. If you take the right, just turnaround and continue right on Pine. Eventually you'll see some big boulders on the right. That's where the parking lot is. The trail we take is across from the boulders.

Directions from the North:
Take I35 south to exit 195, MN23. Turn right (west) onto MN23. A half mile in, you'll turn left onto MN23/Co Hwy 61. Follow this till MN123, turn left-its a sharp left.

See you there!

(who's bringing carmel rolls from Tobies?)

Well first off... Welcome!
As far as how many people show to the events, it kinda depends on the weather. I cant say for sure cause ive only been to 1 scaler event but you might see as many as 15-20 or as few as 2-3.
Anything goes... Run what you brung, last fall i ran my comp rig. But there are alot of Honchos and Wraiths.
You can skip the water. Not everybodys rigs are waterproof.
Tire size doesnt really matter but i think you will have the most fun with 1.9 or larger.
However long as you want or until all your batterys are dead.
Hope this answers your questions and hopfully you show and have a good time. I unfortunatly will be unable to attend.

Sent from my phone using my fingers.

4-8 people seems to be the norm.

Most of the rigs are SCX10 based. There are also a few wraiths, and a handful of custom built rigs.

- any water?(not yet waterproof)

Water is always optional.

- tires size?

Mainly 1.9s, a few 2.2s

- how long out on trail?

As long as you want, we will stay as late as 2-3pm. You are free to leave as early or late as you would like though.

-?????

the nore info the better -- thanks
I guess I should also add that I will be there

VisitorAlert! Due to recent heavy rains, the Kettle River is running at dangerously high levels and swift currents. Canoes and kayaks are advised to stay off the river. Blueberry Slide and Bridgeview campsites, and boat landings within the park, are temporarily closed.

This was off the dnr website.

Initially, I wasn't too worried about the flooding. I just found a website with current and historic water levels of Kettle River... LINK
I believe their readings are taken just south of where we crawl. According to this site above, the river level is at 18 feet today. When we were there for the Howl Krawl in 2010 we had flooding too. It was at 9 feet the day of the event. A pic to remember.

The level is 9 feet higher than 2010. The 'island' will definetely be out of the question(right side of pic). However, the main land (bottom left side of pic) has a lot of rock to crawl on before we reach the river, and is up pretty high from the river. The question will be if it's high enough. 9 feet is a lot of water. I think we'd be ok, but can't say for sure.

Tommy and Etype were there in 2010. I'd like to hear what they think.

Here's a pic of the height of the rock at the mainland.

If it's 9' higher then it was at that howl crawl, I would rather change the event location to TF. I don't know if we would be able to get over to the section by the island. Even when the river is low, there are several areas over there with standing water. We were just there the other weekend, and that area didn't seem like it was 9' higher then what the current water level was.

Guys just FYI I believe there is a lot of flooding around Kettle river. I know of one person living over there that came back to there house flooded out Thursday due to kettle river raising. Personally guys I am not going, but I would recommend moving it. The river area's up in this neck of the woods are crazy right now. If they are flooding in Kettle river area and Banning Junction as bad as Moose Lake is (which was completely closed off to outside traffic for 24 hours due to all roads into the city being covered by running water). I believe the rivers are suppose to crest either Sat or Sun. I would bet most of your crawling area's in banning will be under water.

When I was up on Thursday delivering heavy equipment for clean up I noticed that the river under the bridge on 35 just north of the exit for banning looked about 20ft higher than it normally is. That is why I raised the question.

Good Call Pimp it is raining up here again today and I don't know how much we are suppose to get but it is a soaking rain and I am sure it is not going to help the flooding situation or the river lvls up here. Lets just say I am pretty sure the fire danger is at LOW. LOL not sure if there is any wood up here that can even burn right now.
