2013 scale rules discussion or question thead What you need to understand is "scale" means different things to different people. Scale isn't about rules and guidelines, it's truely about the "scale apperance and ablility" to do what a real version would do. To have any type of competition the MOST important points are your scale points, then how you perform. Then, with "scale" points you will have people who throw a plastic "scale" motor in the bed of their truck and say they get points for it. Long LONG story. Keep the rules to a minimum (that's why I suggest get together's versus comping) and we will have FUN and draw more people into the hobby. Open a box RTR version and through it down and go, then you can compete against eachother. Once you add wheels and tires, it's subject to someone's oppioion and then the whole thing falls apart. I know what you are thinking...but there will always be someone who skirts the rules to gain an advantage...then you loose focus on having FUN and people get all butt hurt...this guy is cheating... You see where this is going? Trust me, I have been to National events with Scalers and it's truely a mess. Either at the inspection table or after when someone looses due to this guy "blah, blah". Make sense? I have a version of most scale rigs out there. Don't make me break out the cheater rigs. Maybe have 2 classes "Frame rails" and "Other". The frame rail trucks against the same type. Then the others are Wraiths and anything else you guys wanted to make scale? Simple is much better then RULES.

that gave me a headache 5 pages in. That being said, I dont think we can throw out the baby with the bath water. I agree, simple rules would be better. I like the idea of "frame rails" and "other" classes.

The 1.9 losi class is dead, it peaked 2 years ago when the kits were under $100. We had a pretty good showing for awhile, then everyone sold theirs off, last year it was mainly me and chuck running the class. On the scaler side, we discussed a basic class, simple rules based on a axial honcho sized rig. Even ran a test course, and it seemed to work out well. We do not need scale points, or any complex rules, its a class to bring more people in and just have fun. From where we left off last year with our rules thread, I think we pretty much had it figured out. If you dont like idea, dont run it. |

We're good with the scaler class either way it goes as long as they run last if they are on our comp days. The comp trucks the are most important classes to us at this point but we may not be able to stay late every time. We also like everything about the our current rules and focus so don't over think it and fawk up a good thing. As a club we've never had a problem with guest drivers so Chuck's idea on the 1.9 class works. But it's one class I guarantee that you'll never see me build a rig for because I have serious concerns about it's overall health as a class. I agree with Baller on the scale comp rules they are a serious headache and a scale competition killer for our club. How ever we have a rig and will participate in what ever the scale guys want with the exception of building a new rig. If you guys can make the scale class work and show some longevity then we'll get serious about it. For now we're only serious about the comp trucks and that part of the schedule. The 17th gives people a little more time to get this scheduled. I pull so I'll probably be there but Greg and Brawley need some notice. We're excited about 2013 the MNRCRC season. |

I think that since there has been no objections. We will meet at the Mermaid on March 17th. Storm, when is a good time? Before, during, or after the pulling? Sent from my phone using my fingers. |

The Honcho class doesn't include any scale points. It's basically taking Honcho-equivilant trucks, and run them on courses just like our 2.2 comp rigs. The basic idea for rules was (off the top of my head): -ladder frame chassis -cut down chassis replaced with truggy ok, so long as the other dimensions are met -wheelbase no longer than (honcho/dingo-whichever was longer) -body must cover half the width of all 4 tires and body length must extend past the front/rear of all 4 tires -truggy tube work must comply -front bumper required -bumper must be as wide as body -4.5" max tire height -front wheel steer only -no dig These rules would keep a moderately modified Honcho on a similar playing field as a box stock Honcho, which would allow the RTR crowd a class to compete in. If there was interest, we could even do the same thing with the Wraiths or Twin Hammers. With these newer rigs coming out that are actually capable out of the box, this opens a new avenue for gaining new members that I feel we need to explore. As for the meeting, I think Toby has some great topics listed to discuss. The 17th would be fine. But, if you haven't already, we need to talk with Ken to make sure we have his approval to hold it there. Let me know if you need me to call him.

Most modded honchos don't have a bumper as wide as the body

I can take measurements of my stock jk bumper and that can be the requirement. Or I could bring it to the meeting to clarify on the honcho class minimums. The jk bumper is the narrowest of the three scx10s.

Sitting at work waiting for my train to arrive and I started looking at the calender and trying to come up with a starter schedule. This is definatly open to change but I wanted to get something started. Highlighted in orange is comp dates at Taylors Falls, highlighted in yellow is scale gtg for the sat before with no determination on location. If it doesnt look right or you can't see the picture well, let me know and Ill type up something when I get to my computer. Thanks Toby Sent from my phone using my fingers. |

Looks like 6 scale gtg's? Looks good to me!That's 2 more than last year! There were 13 comps last year, Possibly 12 this year? Looks like a starting point. So , meeting on the 17th? What time? Last edited by semnmrc; 03-07-2013 at 08:17 PM. |
