Default CMRCRC / Hobby Town Indoor Course

With the weather being so cold and our local crawl spots either covered in ice and snow or just plain to cold to crawl sometimes (-9 today w/ wind chill), we got together w/ our fantastic local Hobby Town and this is what we have done to this point.

3 4x8 sheets of plywood, hinged together for storage and to change up the lay out.

All obstacles are foam attached w/ hot glue and some skewers for additional support. Covered in plaster cloth and some additional plaster in some places.

Plan to finish it w/ paint and some kind of texture compound and some form of aggregate (most likely sand) for added grip.

Here are some pics, sorry the white foam and white plast don't offer much contrast.

More pics are loading.......

Looks great! I wonder what the guy behind the counter in the first pic is thinking. "What the hell are you making."

If you have a Home Depot in the area, you might want to try some of Behr's elastomeric paint. It comes in many colors and is used to cover cracks in plaster. It has 300% elasticity and will stretch. You can mix in some sand when you paint it on. It goes on thick and covers well. You will need to recoat spots that rub down from constant abuse. Ultimately bed liner spray is the best, but rather expensive.

I have used Behr's elastomeric products on all the rock/demo courses I've built. Bed liner spray is usually black, so I use the Behr paint for color and added texture.

One other tip if you are looking to add grip, get some of the very tiny rocks that people use to fill the bottom of fish aquariums. Add some to the elastomeric paint as you spread it on. Use a big old paint brush, if possible. The thicker and sloppier the brush, the better. I usually do more dabbing with the brush then spreading.

Someone actually mentioned that this afternoon. Also some kind of model RR ground cover.

Once again, thank's for the input.

I have plenty of teeny fish tank rocks to donate!

I wanted to make it out today and help, but I will have to stop by another day. Looks like great progress! I take it all is left to do is paint/coat it?

Dez, you can add sand to the paint as well but it has to be washed sand or the silt in it causes it to de bond, it looks really good I'm jealous
