Default Would appreciate your insight

From one that would like to be able to put together the same type of event in a different geo location then the Midwest Challenge was, would you guys of KC be willing to share the Pro's and Con's of how you saw this event?

I had just a few questions myself, but others are welcome to put in their two cents as well.

1. How much area were you able to use at Fastlane for the event, and could you have used more?

2. How did you perceive the coverage by RCC? Would a DSL line been better then a cell/wireless connection? Would you have liked to have seen more interviews of competitors after their runs?

3. How was the mix of real rock and artificial rock received by the competitors? What was their response to the course layout in general?

I was just wondering in general how you evaluated to event. I really believe in doing so, you and others like myself could make these events even better. Just look at how it improved from last year alone.

You guys did a great job, and I hope to learn from your experience.

Thanks so much for sharing your insight.

Aprroximate areas
1500 ft^2 comp area
1000 ft^2 for comand central (Jason and Badgers computer stations) and vendor area
1500 ft^2 of pit area

Any less could have gotten cramped, if you have this much room then you are DAMN lucky. I don't think we needed any more room though.

2. How did you perceive the coverage by RCC? Would a DSL line been better then a cell/wireless connection? Would you have liked to have seen more interviews of competitors after their runs?

The connection was a cable modem at the comp site I believe (may have been DSL). The guys only used their wireless connection for the road trip down. It would not have been able to stream video like they did with a wireless connection.

I don't think I heard any complaint about any of the rock. The only place where it was mentioned was on "The blob" where wheels spin had started to polish the base of the obstical. Everyone took it in stride though, rocks change throughout the day everywhere.

I was just wondering in general how you evaluated to event. I really believe in doing so, you and others like myself could make these events even better. Just look at how it improved from last year alone.

Last year the effort was not made like it was this year. Neal and Jerry probably put more than 100 hours each into the event this year. They had upwards of 5K in prizes. Finding a space where you have 4000 square feet of area that you can use is rare, and finding a place that you can spend the time to set it up for more then 1 day will be even more rare.

You guys did a great job, and I hope to learn from your experience.

Default Thank you so much

Hey Harley0706,

Thanks so much for your input. I really believe you will find a lot of folks gleaning from your information on how to put this same type of event together.

It can't help but make our sport better.

Thanks again.

I will add that people judging should not be in the comp. It was hard covering judges/scorekeepers when it was their turn to run. It also made the scoring "less consistant", not that it was bad to begin with, but it makes it harder.

And one more thing...hold off on the drawing/prize give-a-way until the comp is over, or at least the 3rd round is done. The drawing would have been a perfect time to calc the totals and scores to see who's in the finals. IMO, it would have saved time. There were many people that left because the 3rd round took so long to get started.
