| bmuzz1's 6x6 Flatbed Mini Hauler
I have always really liked the 6x6 builds I have seen over the years so I decided to build my own. Plans were to build a Dakar style truck at first but then switched gears after my buddy John (MTHead) plopped his mini on the back...Mini hauler?.. Plans are now to build a styrene cab back to cover the motor/ tranny and house the battery and electronics, then make the back half of the rig a flat bed long enough to carry a Mini. So after getting in touch with SEMIJOE for the 23.5" Dakar chassis and tandem rear axle mounts and finding the Bruder cab I got started. Front and rear springs are Hi Lift to allow the use of the Mud Pluggers Currently lower links are Axial steering links but they will be changed to Delrin. Went back to Johns today to do some tinkering on the rig and he ended up going to town on this thing. He made this sick Delrin tranny mount and then made mounts for the cab and delrin cross members for the front and rear of the chassis to finish it off nicely. Something tells me that articulation is not gonna be an issue. More to come soon! -Brian |

| Sorry guys for not keeping up with the updates...my bad! I have been working on a cab back for the truck and also modding up the rear shocks so that they don't continue to limit my articulation...unacceptable in my book! Not to make any more excuses but I was also building a Slash from the ground up..no kit! It is done now so back to the 6x6. I will post some pics later today of my progress. |

Okay, so I promised some update pics so here we go. Here's the start of the cab back. There is still a lot of work to do to it yet like add doors and hinges to the sides and also the front. Once the cab is complete I will be going back over to MTHead's to make the supports for the bed. The flat bed portion of the truck will be around 10" long x 8.5" wide and the cab back is 6" long x 8.5" wide...this thing is gonna be a beast!! Still gotta get rid of the wheel well arch in the front fenders so that it lines up with the tires. Here's some pics of the rear suspension set-up that MTHead came up with yesterday on his 6x6 after I was complaining about the lack of articulation with the stock semi shocks. The set-up works really well and allows plenty of articulation as you can see from the pics. For paint I am thinking of using Krylon Fusion Satin Navy on the cab and bed and then doing the chassis and suspension in Flat Black. I will also be painting the A.S.T.R. logo as in my avatar on the doors in flat black. -Brian Last edited by bmuzz1; 02-20-2010 at 03:43 PM. |
