Default M818 Tractor

Thought it would be cool to have a 1:10 scale big rig. This way I'll keep all my rigs roughly the same scale. And since they don't make scale bodies that size I'll have to make it myself so the more simple the better. So what better than an old military truck with lots of straight body panels. Here's what I came across on the web:

I have to say these militants wheels from RC4WD are amazing!! Machined aluminum with all the small hardware I was impressed:

M3 screw for size reference

The axles that I ordered thru Hobby Hutt of Winchester,VA have arrived, and they're awesome!!! Threw on the wheels and took some pics along with some other scale accessories I made today:

Leaf springs the easy way, start with a steel band clamp, split in two then cut to length:

Brazed together the spring seats

What thread are on the spring seats? M2? M2.5? 4-40? 2-56?

Wow. Those wheels look sooo much better in your pics than they do on RC4WD/s website!

well aren't you lucky i stumbled upon this build. I have a few pages of detail shots of the m-818's siting in my back yard i took for rcjeepbuilder on scale when he built his.

here is the photo album
5-tons pictures by hairba11 - Photobucket

spring brackets

rear cross member

cross member above the axle pivot under the 5th wheel from an 818 with the hitch removed

rear cab cross member and t-case support.

tube and mesh grill or bar grill

basically start on page 11 and work your way back through it to go from cross members and suspension parts through cab and seat details etc.

Nice spring packs! Good to see you doing a big rig at the right scale. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

You should post this up at scale4x4 in the big rigs section. You will get lots of attention there!

Awesome thanks man!! I've been looking all over the place for some good shots of the drivetrain, frame and suspension on the net.
