Cool Oshkosh P-series 6x6 Truck

*Decided this build suites this section better.
Hi all,
Last week I gathered some free time and started a new build!
Oshkosh P-series 6x6 Truck.
Well let's get on to the pictures shall we?

Frame starts to take shape

Alright, now some technical details.
  • Transmission- R3 Scale 2 Speed Transmission
  • Wheels- Wheely King Mud Thrashers
  • Transfer Case- Hammer Transfer Case (1.47/1)
  • Axles- Wheely king axles (and driveshafts)
  • Steering servo- Hitec HS-7954SH - High Torque HV Coreless Servo
  • Motor- HPI Wheely King Saturn Motor 27T (Stock)
  • ESC- Wheely King stock
  • Battery- HPI Ni-Cd BATTERY PACK (7.2V 1500mAh)

That's about it. I have not yet mounted a small servo to switch between the transmission gears. I'll get to that soon. And the chassis will be shortened.

I've notices that the battery life is not enough, and the motor is not good for this kind of truck that requires more torque and less speed.
If you have any suggestions for another setup please comment!

Hope you like it so far,
Yorai

This is sick! I love the rear suspension setup you've got going on.

Thanks guys!
Just a little update, I recently ordered an Integy Matrix Pro Lathe 45T Motor to move the truck, and some 5000mAH 2S LiPo batteries.
It will totally boost run time and hopefully performance.

Here it is with the front axle on

IMG_2333

The progress so far is the trim of the front of the chassis.

I have not decided yet on what cab to build, I have an aluminum HEMTT cab from my last project but I think I'll go with a smaller, maybe a single person cab. And a rear flat bed or even one covered with fabric.

BTW here is my new workbench!

New Workbench

See ya soon,
yorai

It's running!! Well actually rolling...

Video of the first run is up!

It can gather up some decent speed at 2nd gear, it is fun for now but it will all change when the new motor will arrive.

Finally decided to go with the all-aluminum HEMTT cab.

Still only aluminum plates bolted together. I'll cut out the windows soon. Maybe using a borrowed cutting disc. I want to keep it light and have no styrene.. I'll figure out how to get on from there .

Shifting gears!! I still cant believe such a small servo controls that

In a couple of days I'm receiving my new motor! I'll keep updating on the performance of the truck with the current battery and the (soon to come) lipo batteries.

Slow progression.

This week I received the new 45T motor, it's great! But the real difference will be noticed only when the batteries arrive. The run time is too short to test right now.

Continued the rear bed today, making the frame and mounting it on.

When working here I feel like a mad scientist

That's it for now. Next, I will paint the chassis black and the body in another colour. And of course some more body work. Although not too much..
Can't wait for the batteries to arrive!

I made a new mount for the front leaf springs using 2mm aluminum cut and bent.

I recently received 2 5000 mAH LiPos. Like I thought, it's great .

With the new mont I'm not afraid go a little harder on the truck, although from time to time the gears in the middle axle slip.
I have inserted 2 long M3 bolts across the axle to make it tighter.

I'll paint it soon.

I was having the same issue with the gears in my middle axle as well. Solved it by shiming both the front and rear pinions in said axle.
Love the truck by the way.

Thanks! Right now the long bolts going through the axles are holding pretty well .

Good job bro, I like the ck/wk axles. You have inspired me to use my set of ck axles, just need to find a third and another axle housing now.
