6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! Started gathering parts and building this thing almost a year ago, its a slow process due to budget and time! Got two returned hsp pangolin (ax10 copy) That had minor issues and thus where returned to the company selling them. Got them cheap. Took the axles and gearbox made a frame and walking beam suspension. As Zil 157 has two transfer shafts going to the gearbox i went with that design and it also left me with one spare axle set. This design demands dual outputs from the transfercase with the same rotational direction and gearing. Wich cant be baught. My father is going to make the pieces i need in a lathe, soon i hope. I am also trying to make the driver cabin and hood out of polyster resin and fiberglass reinforcement. I have made a cabin out of styrenefoam (i think its called) as a plugg. Its not going to be an exact replika of a zil as im not that good but i hope u can tell what it is by looking at it! This is where im at! The front fake dampers need to have the outer tube shortened. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/yda3u5as.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/zadu7ere.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/5uze5u2a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/02/u4eqeted.jpg |
On the bying list is 8 tamiya hummer rims for my flashpoint tires and the two spares behind the cabin. A fifth wheel hitch from tamiya i think will do! And also plasticard for making details on the cabin. And a servo needs to be sorted out. The rest i think i can make myself. |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! looks good ill be watching this one |
Thanks! With shit tools you get shit results! I tried to make the pieces where the ball bearings sit but i couldent get the holes centered. So i asked my father and today he made them! We will see when i get them. They live 100km from me. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/03/7utyze5a.jpg |
He made me pieces for three transfercases! |
I have now put the transfercase together and mount it to the chassis! I also made the tyrecarrier for the spares and made the tamiya fifth wheel i got from krankillen look more like the original and mounted it to the chassis. I have also painted the parts! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/15/syjyhata.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/15/y5eny7em.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/15/3ebynahy.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/15/ry5ena2e.jpg |

Laminated the cabin. Not a great job. I will need to lay down a lot of time on it to get it good but the overall shape is ok! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/19/avuda7a9.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/19/7upu3eje.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/19/myve6ura.jpg |

Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! Great work LCW!! I love the weathering effects on your truck chassis and the fact that you are scratchbuilding a rare model cab and not just buying a kit like everyone does, it must be hours of sanding work. Keep us posted, I want to see it finished. |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! Are the flash points the new softer material? |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! Subcribed, nice detail so far! |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! Thank everyone! Yes the sanding took several hours! But i did it nonstop over one and a half day! Better be done with it, right! I wanted a 6x6 but lack of money for hobby and the fact i like building and wanted something different made me go for a scratch build! The two pair of flashpoints on the rear are the old flashpoint but the front are the new version! They differ alot from eachother! The new dont have small ribbons on the inside tyre wall and the rubber feels thinner! |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! At first I was a not a fan of this build. But I am very surprised at how things just took a turn for the best! Looks great! |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! The cab has me wondering, but you have done a great job so far. The cab will come around I am sure. Those chassis / spare holder pics look very scale. Keepin an eye on this one. |
Re: 6x6 rc truck with Zil 157 as inspiration! If im going to be honest! I know the cab aint 100%! I started with the intention of a not so detailed truck, i was scared of not wanting to run it hard wich was the intent! Now i dont mind to realy drive it but it turned out to be a good "look a like" i think. :) Shelfqueens are nice but i dont have one:) |
