| Any 4WD 4WS 6 wheel builds?
I am collecting some parts to build a idea I have had floating in me head & I wondered if anyone had seen a build thread similar. Front & rear axles are powered & steer while the center wheels are free rolling. SCX10 axles. I have searched a bit to no avail but, you never know what to search for sometimes. I see lots that are 6WD but I am looking for free wheels in the center builds. Thnx Last edited by Dostradamas; 05-08-2014 at 12:07 PM. |

So I just secured my 3rd scx10 axle. Here is my idea, I want to mount the motor / tranny on the free wheeling center axle as low as possible. Once my parts come in I will start a build thread, at this point still brainstorming & looking for ideas. Not for scale, likely for FPV platform for fun. |

Why would you want a non working center axle?

I'd have to ask the same question as cg78. What do you gain from not powering the center axle? If you are going to the trouble to hang a third axle under the chassis, why not power it? And if you mount the motor/trans on the center axle, you've now taken that weight that was spread between two powered axles that have traction and put it on an unpowered one with no traction. I see no gain whatsoever. Put more weight on your wheels and in your axles if you need weight down low.

I want a symmetrical 6 wheel vehicle that has a turn radius (w 4ws) very close to the wheel base (like a tank) If the center wheels cannot spin in opposite directions they will drag in the turn. |

Maybe not close but I did a 6x6 back in the day with the front two axles steering. Not sure if it will give you any ideas or not. Shane's 6x6 Trials Truck Build |

I see. You are going to have to have 6ws to get the tightest radius. Either the front and center or center and rear axles turning as a pair. Could add rear dig if it's only 4wd. If it's a really short wheelbase you might want to mount just a transfer case on top of the center axle. |

| Re: Any 4WD 4WS 6 wheel builds? Why don't you run a non locked axle? I'm not sure if there are planetary gear kits for the scx10 axles but that would help your turning radius I think |

I think you should go for it You are going to do short inter-wheel spacing right? Like this? Or this? |
