nice build! I can't get use to the 8 wheel steer, but still a cool rig!

Yeah, the tamiya cr-01 axles don't have the best steering angle so the 8 wheel steer is just something i had to do for practical use. Without the 8 wheel steer this thing has about 10-12 ft turning circle. i try to use just the front axle steering as much as possible.

Got my servo winches done up. I was going to detail their construction as well but neither of them went very smooth. they were the first two i have built and there was some learning involved but i straightened em out. There are other threads for builds on them anyways.

I have one behind the front bumper and one on the back rack. they both run off the same rc4wd wireless winch controller run thru a 2 position switch. Main truck runs on 3s so this has a second 1200 mah Nimh just for the winches.

I built the back rack one with a removable body pin to allow freespool, but its kinda tough to get at so it probably wont get used.

The servos i used are the same 8 buck hobby king 12.8 kg brass gear servos i used for the steering, so far they are still holding up (though i did break one when i ran the truck into a rock at full speed, my fault really). Didn't want to cut up something expensive anyways. Internal spool is from a 1/10 3 racing winch.

A while back i had some clicking coming from one of the diffs so i decided to do any remaining upgrades i could to them. The front and rear axles had lockers, hardened shafts and aluminum knuckles and C-hubs already, but the middles were stock. So the middle two get the lockers and hardened shafts.

Gears are a problem in these CR-01 axles, they are are some sort of pot metal and the pinions are pressed two piece which likes to fragment or split in half, or three even. The ring gears seem to be a bit better, which is good cause there is no replacement option since RC4WD stopped making the steel TLT-1 spool. RC4wd still makes a steel pinion for the d40/d35/tlt-1 one however so i ordered 4 of those.

I didn't take photos of each axle, but the one i did was definitely the most interesting.

Well it appears there is some gear bits in there... and some screws fell out of the casing. Btw, there is grease in there. Not that you could tell anymore though.

Well those screws were what held the carrier together, it appears to have exploded. That's new!

Mirrors. Layer some styrene up and sanded to shape. I used a bit of plated copper for the mirror and edged it in some thin styrene.

I put a groove in the middle to put the brass mount and then a piece of styrene on top to fix it in place. This allows the mirror to rotate on the mount. The mount is secured with hinges to the cab. Hopefully this will allow it to take some hits without breaking. It's already had one soft roll over to no ill effects, so that's promising.

Well the deck, which in my laziness neglected to stain, has of course swelled and warped from water. I knew it would eventually. So new deck time. Cut some new pieces and stained and sealed them this time. I used some redwood deck stain/sealant which i think looks pretty good. That is all.

This rig is bad ass! Really like everything you did to it.

Realistically is something of this size just a trail truck? Is it able to do any sort of rock climbing without just tipping over all the time? I'm thinking about building a 6x6, truck cab like that or a home made American style truck, run duals on the rear axles so 10 tires in all, but I really like rock crawling with my scale vaterra ascender. Not comp crawling but scale crawling I guess. I know it'll be heavy and too heavy at that but was just wondering. Thanks and awesome job again!

This thing does remarkably well. It can keep up with the average scaler out on the trail even with another rc on the deck. It's surprisingly stable. When it's muddy out hill climbs can get difficult due to the weight but thats what the winch is for.

I decided that Onslaught needs a plow. So i built one.

started with 4" pvc

Cut out a 11" long piece. it's the piece that isn't there.

cut a couple pieces of aluminum and attached them to the pvc.

Added a rod to set blade angle. it has to be set manually. 4 channels isn't enough for this rig.
