so this is my first 6x6 build, and also first hardbody paintjob.

Bought is as a new Deadbolt SCX10.

Ordered some wheels, they go by four, so i got some spare wheels.

Tried to mount the maxxis trepadors but it didnt work out, i couldnt mounted the beadlocks. On this foto it is not mounted, just loose.

I considered the Mil spec tyres but i read some negative reviews about it, however these look very scale.

I really like this 6x6 so i bought the tractor tyres.

I ordered a donor scx10 chassis wich should come this afternoon, for the extended chassis.

Maybe in the future when it gets scratches and gets damaged i go for a weathered look. For now i like the shine and the bling.

I am considering a flat bed, not to difficult because its my first custom build. I was trying to use this build as a guideline..

I tought about mounting the upper links to the chassis, but it hits the cross braces (on the photo it's just 2 braces, it will have 4 braces).

I have to keep in mind the tyres i will gonna use have a smaller outer diameter.

So i have to wait for the tyres to come in.. Also bought some more links to use as chassis braces.

Measuring is my weak point so this build is a big learning point for me. I also going to look for a tapping screw set. I have a bunch of Wraith aluminium links i dont use anymore because i got titanium on them, so i can cut and tap them for my 6x6.

Whats the best way to mount the upper links from the 3rd axle, is it better to mount them on the chassis? ANd how do i circumvent that the upper links bind with the chassis braces.. hmm maybe i have to bent them..

I see that the lower links are connected between the 2nd and 3rd in many builds, so i think i go install them like that.

Whats the best way.. mount a 4link on the 3rd axle or a 3 link on the 3rd axle.

I am considering to go for a 3 link on the 3rd axle, i've heard this wel decrease the side movement of the 3rd axle.

Removed the braces (it was binding with the 3 link), cut the screws to the right length and locktide them.

The shortest is 65mm it would put the tyres around 2,5 cm closer to eachother.. with just 1,5cm between eachother.

I use SDI 4x4 (from Spain) drive shafts both in my 6x6 at the rear (about a 4 kg truck) and also in a 4 kg Gelände 2.

They hold up better than ANY other drive shaft (metal or plastic) I've tried at the 6x6 rear.

The best thing about the SDI drive shafts is that they are user-shortenable, so you can make any length you wish, and the joints are very small (but very durable) that the overall length can be very short.

To shorten the drive shaft I had to use a Dremel because I couldn't even dent the shaft with a regular metal saw. Tells something about the quality of the steel they are using (..or the dullness of my saw blade).

FYI, the picture you posted earlier of a 3-link is really a 4-link. It's deceptive because there's only one mounting point on the top of the axle, but that's really considered a 4-link setup, for all practical purposes. Converting it from a "Y" upper mount to two individual mounts (one for each upper arm) would just yield different suspension geometry, but for a rig like this I think you'd be just fine. "thumbsup"

Thanks for the advice. I ordered cheap version 1 Axial SCX10 shafts, they can be shorten more the the Wild boar axles.

If that doesnt work i might go for the sdi axles but can they be shorten to 55 mm?

I've heard that a v-link mount better is, for a 6x6 because otherwise you will got to much sidemovements from the axles. So i will try the v-link mount first.

50's Theme

I really like the 50's colors, logo's etc. So i think i will go for a bit of 50's look.
Dont care the Bullhead body isnt typically 50s :)

The space between the outer bearings on my 6x6 is 66 mm. The axle could be shortened by some 6 mm. Which I might even do because I like to have the least amount of space between the rear tires.

When I built a 6x6 a few years ago, the short shaft between the rear drive axles was my biggest headache. Not only because of the short length, but also because of the amount of travel between the 2 axles. If one axle was fully compressed and the other was fully drooped, the shaft would pull apart.

I ended up having to limit the amount of suspension travel of middle axle a bit, this not only solved the drive-shaft issue it also solved the u-joint binding issue of the main drive-shaft going to the middle axle. It was difficult to keep both outputs as level as possible through out the suspension cycle.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered the SDI shafts and also ordered some 60mm super scale shocks from RC4wd so i can mount the shocks straight on the chassisrails for a clean look.

I dont like it when the bed is raised op because of the stock shockhoops. The shorter schocks will decrease some movement i guess, between the 2nd and 3rd axle.

I mean less travel because of shorter shocks.

Yesssss! It looks like i finally sorted out the links and driveshaft between the middle and rear axle. I looked a lot at other builds. And sort of copied the setup from HDMM's Recovery Build.
