| Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 hardbody
LOVE the G63 6x6, and have been wanting to build one for a while. With the bouncer running (not finished though) I feel fine starting the next build. I bought a G55 body that was being made into a G500 truck to start this build off. I even plan to do portal axles, found some SCX10 hubs on shapeways that fit inside glue-on Tamiya 1.9's Will probably end up making my own 1.9 wheels too, to better mimic beadlocks on the real thing. With 1.55 Growlers on them for the overall diameter. The RC4wd Humvee wheels and rock crushers are off SuperDrty, which will be donating the axle housings at the very least. Anyway, that body arrived on Thursday, but I was out of town, so I just opened the box today, and proceeded to start propping it up I then proceeded to cut it up, haha. mainly to extend the back of the cab out to where the real one is Thankfully, the section of the roof that was cut out to make it a G500 came with it. I got that glued back on, and reinforced a bit. I'll trim that back down once I figure the size of that rear quarter window. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:07 PM. |

Trimmed the back of the roof. I taped it to the box to help support it while cutting with thread. Then I cut out a panel that shows how long the body will end up. BTW, this build will be a long one -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:08 PM. |

Threw an SCX10 axle under the front. With the portal hubs I want run, it should put the width right where it needs to be once I make the flares. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:09 PM. |

Started doing some styrene work extending the body side Working on getting the body lines flat and inline, once I get those right, I'll reinforce the back of the joint a lot better. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:10 PM. |

Passenger side quarter window blocked in, another piece of the bedside in (current highest section, there's more that goes above this) and trimmed the original tail to fit (just taped up now) The panel on the driver's side is just taped up to help hold the tail up -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:11 PM. |

Working on the back of the cab now. Also, was looking at the interior that came with the body, and figured out it's actually a Hummer H2 interior. Which I'm leaning towards not using it, and building my own to better match the real Mercedes interior. The Dash won't be that hard, it's the seats that have me puzzled. May end up sculpting one seat out of clay, and casting 4 out of resin. Not 100% sure on my plan here. For now I'll keep chugging along on the exterior. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:13 PM. |

Got the stock rear bumper mounted. It still just bolts on, but added hooks on the sides to slide in slots already there. Then I did a preliminary trim for the rear wheel openings, left room to figure out how I'm going to mount the flares, once I make them. I also figured out that the portals I want to get (waiting on extra funds to actually buy them, haha) give almost a full inch extra track width. So I'll be doing some experimenting with offsets once I start making the wheels so the flares don't get too wide to try and cover the tires. -Derek Last edited by SuperDrty; 02-14-2016 at 12:17 PM. |
